Fitting MFD in Skoda Superb

Featured Replies

I would like to fit a secondhand Skoda MFD D in my 03 Superb. I would like to get the MFD to work fully with the display between the speedo and rev dials (directions, street names etc) AND the steering wheel controls. Could someone explain what i need to do to achieve this? ALSO will it work with the standard CD changer that is already in the boot? Thanks in advance for any help.

Same question as GaryB plus I have the multifunction steering wheel which I would also like to still work the radio.

I also see that if you buy a TMC box you get 'dynamic navigation' so you get routed automatically around accidents before you get to them. Does this work and will any box do or is it a special.

If anyone has ( or knows of a site that does ) a step by step, fool proof, guide to doing the install and anything to watch out for. Might be good to know if my airbags will all go off if I short a wire in error !!!

I've done an MFD in a Fabia, unit seemed to work ok. I don't know much about the TMC boxes except they have a VAG part number and you need a suitable disk.

You would probably do well to look up some Passat installs, I know the US guy's wire up what they call a FIS which I think is what we call the MFD (Multi Function Display - Not to be confused with the Navi Unit)

Try www.vwNavi.com

Thanks VRStu,

The thread on VWNavi tells me this is not going to be a simple plug and play job !

Looks like I need the TMC when this is something I had on my 'wish list' and not my 'must have list'.

It would be nice to hear from someone that had successfully fitted an MFD in a Superb and everything worked as if it were a factory fit ( including the Maxidot and multifunction steering ). But I am willing to forfeir the steering wheel radio controls so long as the cruise control buttons will still work.

Cruise will be a different system and shouldn't be affected.

Another thing to bear in mind and I know I keep repeating it but these units aren't as plug and play as you might think (or the sellers would like you to think) - you really need access to VAG-COM for a good install.

The VW one I put in my dad's Fabia was coded for a Golf with DSP so there wasn't any sound coming from the speakers. I've had an MFD2 which had a CD player fault code preventing Map Disk access. Al MFD2's need coding to the car anyway.

How does the coding work ? Do you plug the VAG-COM in once the radio is fitted and then somehow access it through the cars com system ?

Is this easy ( do I just access whatever the radio address is and enter a new code ) ? And what should the code be for a superb with maxidot and multifunction steering ?

( And for future - or maybe soon if it doesn't work in my Superb - what would it be in my wifes fabia without maxidot and without m/f steering )

Thanks for your help

Ok this is the coding for a Passat -

Access Controller 56 - Radio

It's in the format xxxxx

05 - Passat

4 - 4 Passive Loudspeakers

0 - DSP not fitted

7 - CD Changer, Maxi Dot Display and Powered Antenna

So you would have 05407

There is also a little bit more if you fit TMC

Maybe this is a stupid question but searching google etc I have not found it:

How do you know what code to put in at Access Control 56 ?

Otherwise maybe someone can give the proper code from a factory fitted sat nav in a Superb with the following active:

Superb with Multi function steering wheel, Maxidot display, TMC box, active speakers ( The superb has active speakers the yellow socket is fully wired - not sure if its just the bass speakers as the passive connections are made also )

Can I just get a VAG-COM and read from the synphony unit and copy the same code to the MFD ???? ( I know this is probably wrong - If it seems to simple to be true it probably is ! )

Perhaps you weren't googling the right places ;)

If you wanted to code the Nav Unit (37) then you could add

channel 01 - Tire Size in MM (For instance 205/55 R16 is 1930)

channel 02 - Number of Teeth on ABS Sensor - Passat 3B is 45

channel 06 - TMC Box Fitted - 1
