Fabia 1.4 MPI idle trouble

Featured Replies

Hi, my Fabia 1.4 MPI (X reg) has got idling trouble, the revs fluctuate between 1000 and below 500 rpm, sometimes it cuts out altogether! Is this clogged injectors or an ecu problem??? I ask as my nearest dealer is 40 miles away and I want to fix it myself if possible!!!

Any Ideas??

I have same car X reg and mine is exactly the same. Dealer suggests problem with throttle flap.

thanks for that, easy to fix do you think? Or does it need a new one?

Hi - have you solved the problem now? Please let us know :)

There's a thread here of a similar nature (albeit re a more powerful car) which suggests the LAMDA sensor as a possibility (not sure what that is though). I had a fairly similar problem on my 1.4 which turned out to need to new temp gauge sensor.

Easy fix first, try cleaning the throttle body before trying to second guess the electronics without diagnostic equipment.

Doing a search on cleaning the throttle body will provide more detail.

How easy / expensive is it replace the temp sensor?

Only my car does have a slightly erratic tickover and I've noticed the gauge rising quicker. Am I right as well in that it can affect MPG if the sensor is not behaving properly? Or did I dream that bit?

I also have a 1.4 MPI from 2002 with ~48.000 miles.

Mine was also quite lumpy on idle.

I gave it some intake cleaner - simply sprayed it into the intake. The engine now idles much better, could be a good thing to try.

I know that many garages in Denmark also uses intake cleaner when servicing cars, so it shouldn`t damage anything.

I also did this on my old Citroen Xantia 1.8 8v with 280.000 km, the engine really came alive again.

My temperature gauge is also not working some of the time. Would faulty sensor cause tickover problem?

Thanks for all the advice. I think it is another elec problem as the oil light came on the other day with loud beeping, that turned out to be a simple wiring fault!! I will try the intake cleaner too as it hopefully will help it anyway as it seems low on power recently. Also can't wait for haynes manual as it will help keep servicing costs down ;)
