Santa Pod Results

Featured Replies

Well my first visit to the pod went fairly well. Gonna go back in the summer though as it was too cold to get heat into the tyres! No traction what-so-ever in 1st and 2nd, then in 3rd it finally hooked up. Went up against a mate in VW Passat W8 4Motion in all 4 runs.

Run 1 - I managed to balls up the start completely! Dropped the clutch way to fiercly and just sat there spinning the wheels! Lost all the time to the Passat on the line. Once I got traction we were very even.

Result: Reaction time - 1.288

60ft - 2.820

330ft - 7.299

1/8mile - 10.844

1/4mile - 16.691

Passat 1/4mile - 16.147

Run 2 - Better, but still felt I fluffed it at the start. Slightly better traction, but still too much spin for my liking! Again, lost out to the Passat at the start. Started to pull him back upto 70, then he pulled away again!

Result: Reaction time - 1.258

60ft - 2.724

330ft - 7.140

1/8mile - 10.728

1/4mile - 16.497

Passat 1/4mile - 16.152

Run 3 - Felt the start here was the best of the lot, then mucked up the change into third! Had the Passat off the start this time and held him till I changed. This would have been my best run. Still too much spinning, but it didn't seem to hold it back too much!

Result: Reaction time - 1.105

60ft - 2.690

330ft - 7.104

1/8mile - 10.683

1/4mile - 16.518

Passat 1/4mile - 16.142

Run 4 - Still a huge lack of grip from the tyres here. Not as good a start as the last run, but not too bad. Was pretty close to the Passat all the way up. This run turned out to be the best of the day for both of us.

Result: Reaction time - 1.209

60ft - 2.709

330ft - 7.117

1/8mile - 10.689

1/4mile - 16.468

Passat 1/4mile - 16.072

All in all, a very good and enjoyable day. The bikes were something else! Doing 9-10 second runs most of the day! Fastest run of the day that I saw was a 13.something seconds from a Scooby. I have found out now that 3 degree temperatures and summer tyre certainly do not mix when trying to find any traction! Can't wait for next time :D

Nice results Graeme! :D

What sort of rpm were you dropping the clutch at?

First 2 runs I tried to feed the power in gently, but they just lit up anyway! 3rd and 4th runs, I held it on the handbrake and dropped the clutch at about 2,5k. Still spun up, but seemed to pull a bit better that way. Be interesting when it is warmer and the tarmac is stickier though. Should get lower than that I hope. ;)

i feel slightly dissapointed with those figures compared to my old 206 Dturbo. i got 15.3 at york best run, thats with 154 bhp. did you say you had a full tank because when i ran at york i was nearly empty and gutted as much out of the car as possible. ie:- spare and anything else heavy. i also had an uprated clutch that enabled me to pull off in 2nd gear. i'm not sure the skoda clutch would take that. with a chip i was hoping to break the 15 sec. barrier. :(

sounds a great day in all

good results mate. Sounds like you enjoyed it.

For the record my scooby does a qtr mile in 13.16 secs @ 101mph.

si

Do you know what speeds you got up to? ie. Could you work out what your 0-60 time was for example? Would be interesting to see what the chipped up Furby can push a 0-60 in, although I guess the change to third always knocks off some time compared to Petrols that can make it in 2nd.

Interesting stuff. Think I'll have to have a go in the summer when I get mine. Before and after Chip. I would like to get into the low 15's. Maybe with the help of a FMIC and tweaked turbo. :D

Graeme, did you have traction off or traction on?

i too am a wee bit disapointed with the 1/4 time!, my 306 pulls 16.5 in full trim with a tuning box, so about 115 bhp, i reckon the problem is the launch, try not to use the hand brake! leave windows up, heater on full and the air con on until you are staged, then turn it off!!!

try to slipp the cluch a little and short shift in 1st!, then as u go!! just nice quick smooth changes, balancing the clutch and the revs ! dont snatch the gears!!

ps, dont use the traction control, just practice the launch

i`ll hopefully get a few good runs in mine when i invest, insurance is looking to be a pain atm!!!

cheers, + good luck!

I did the runs with TRC off all the time. It was a bit cold really as I couldn't find any grip at all. The Premacy tyres are useless in warm weather, so in the cold, they did naff all!

Will go again in the summer and should get into the 15's comfortably I should think. Everyone struggled to get decent times yesterday unless they had 4 wheel drive. Pug 205 GTi's/Clio cups/Civic VTi's all getting 16-17 sec runs.

Only starting pulling when it was in 3rd, so the times weren't all that bad considering. ;)

The answer to another of the questions asked about speed. Went through the trap at 85-86mph. As you can see by that, there is big room for improvement! :D

if your equaling the clio cups then it looks good for summer. they usually do sub 15 sec. runs.

Only ever done 2 runs, here's the numbers from my slips:

Reaction time: 1.320

60ft: 3.334

330ft: 6.814

1/8: 9.719

1/8: 83.96

1/4: 14.343

1/4: 100.73

Reaction time: 1.140

60ft: 2.732

330ft: 6.915

1/8: 10.102

1/8: 79.30

1/4: 15.348

1/4: 98.81

Surface was damp but at least it was fairly cool.

Runs were done with the following mods; Superchip & cat back exhaust.

Now of course I have Jabba, slightly different turbo, CAI, water spray, inlet pipe and full exhaust :D

Ok Jon. Show off! Mines still on-going and I'm still trying to drive it like a petrol! Need to stop changing at the red line and ride the torque instead!

theres ur answer mate!!

change up early to take advantage of the torque!!, my highest rev is in 3rd gear, when i take it to 3800 before changing to 4th, change from 2nd to 3rd at about 3500-3800, it will fly up the strip if you change early!!

well don for matching the cups tho, this means good times should be had!!

good luck!!

my best run was a 12.9 at york dragway... but i only had one go so reckon theres a second at least in that...

the octy did a 15.1 with duff clutch.. wonder what it would do now... if it had 2wd.
