Best way to 'warm up' my diesel octy?

Featured Replies

Pretty much as the title says really, now its cold in the mornings whats the best way to warm up my car so I'm not blind when I go off to work? (I know that diesels don't warm up the same way as petrols so there's no point firing her up and going back inside for 10mins). Any suggestions or shall I just get a rag to wipe the inside of the windscreen?

Hi Jimbo

You do not say if you have Air con, but there is no need to warm the car up as you say, just start it and drive off, but sounds like you have a issue with it steaming up, well my tip is make sure your windows are kept clean on the inside, do not touch them with your hands, if you have to wipe them use a wash leather.

if you have air con that will help a lot, but if not put the blower on the windscreen on cold(not Hot) as that will make it worse.

The only other thing to consider, are your carpets damp ? if so you have a water leak, and that will not help with the condensation.

Turn on the A/C and direct the air to the windscreen, should clear in a couple of mins max.

As already mentioned, you may have a small water leak causing the dampness inside. I have a diesel octy and dont have this problem, check the rear carpets and see if they are wet.

Turn on the heated windscreen ..... ooops wrong forum ;):rofl:

Chris

@ScoobyChris - that's not fair :P

That said I'm re-investigating this option as a retrofit due to having a cracked windscreen, have a feeling it may get replaced by a standard one again though unfortunately :(

that's exactly what I was going to suggest :D

Get a fuel heater thingy that preheats the cooling system and engine..

Instant hot air.

Cheers for that mate- no i don't have air con. Why is putting it on cold better? I don't have damp carpets but a rained on buggy is a regular and a wet dog comes along for a ride too sometimes!!

Jimbo, when you put the heater on, you blow hot air and water vapour onto the cold screen, and the water promptly condenses out of it. It might be worth punting £6 on a bottle of Rain-X Anti-Fog too. Don't bother with the Halfrauds own brand version. DAMHIKT.

I find my Fabia VRS gets very steamed up in a morning, theres 4 of us in it, although it does clear with the air con, but its SO BLOODY COLD:rofl:
