FAO Awesome Sarah: My dream modifications.

Featured Replies

Lying in the bath last night, I realised what a lovely car my Vrs is to drive, having had a Golf Plus (Golf Minus as I now call it), and a new Ford Fiesta, whilst my car was getting repaired....

I am so glad that the gear box is smooth and precise, the car has enough oomph to get you out of trouble:thumbup: , and to also get you into trouble if you so desire:D ;) , and the steering is nicely weighted. The one thing the Fiesta did better than Furby was the quick clear windscreen (bloomin' quick! )

If I had the money for all this, I was thinking of leather re-trim by Seat Surgeons (black and grey like the originals). Other changes were:

Better brakes: 312mm brake discs from the Octy?

Koni Shocks and springs with the car lowered a couple of inches.

Rear ARB

Uprated Clutch

Tunit box with a custome re-map to appprox 200bhp. I want more oomph in 4th and 5th (so much oomph that it could knock my false teeth out if I buried the throttle:P ).

Maybe upgrade the turbo and intake?

What to people think of my plans for the beast?

Sarah, how much would this little lot cost at Awesome? Any advice you could give on my proposed setup?

:D :D :D

1. The brakes you do anyway. Don't Argue go and do it now.

2. Koni's are good, The Eibach Prokit is a bit better value IMHO

3. Jabba ARB. See point 1.

4. Uprated clutch. You not going to get a reliable 200bhp with just a remap and the standard one handles 180bhp/290lbft just fine. However this would need to be considered if you go through with a 200bhp upgrade (See point 5)

5. Yeah, there are options with this including Revo SPS and the AMD One Click which will get you up to 180 ish without any other mods. You want more you really have to look at full sports zorst (About £750), then a FMIC, then maybe a Hybrid turbo which will cost you about 1500 quid for the pair. Then you get clutch issues and it goes on and on and on...

That extra 20-30bhp costs a lot. There is a sweet spot of around £1500 for modding the Fabia VRS and up to that point you get a bhp/£ ratio. Go above it and the ratio becomes much less favorable.

See if you can go to one of the meets and ask if someone will let you play with a fettled one and see what you think.

REVO and an AmD remap are only good for 170 bhp in reality, the highest output vRS I know of on an indipendant rolling road was Polo Josh GTi with the PD160 Intake, Green Panel Filter and custom code phase 1/2 (cant remember which) and that produced a healthly 180 bhp.

It's not about peak power however, it's all about the delivery and Decron is right about the 200 bhp thing, you wont see that from a tuning box - you'd be lucky to get 160 bhp from one as they only adjust for fuelling.

Regarding the clutch, mine has been running in the 170-180 region (depends which RR you go for) for nearly 2 years or 40,000 miles and i'm still on the standard clutch that shows no signs of wear as yet. The only time you would need a new clutch is if you wanted to make use of 320+ lb/ft of torque as the standard clutch begins to slip beyond that, not many remaps on their own can even get you more than 320 lb/ft without other mods such as a hybrid turbo anyway so it's nothing to worry about...

Yeah, it's about that although if you get a good one you can get a little more... Ill have to get this verified independantly :)

These results however are supported by earlier runs I did at Marlin and Interpro in June

Or why not just put the money you were going to spend towards a faster, better handling car :P:rofl:

Chris

Brakes is a must even if you just swap the calipers for the golf/ocatvia ones with some decent pads.

Rear arb is a must also. Keep the stock springs/damper and just buy better tyres.

If want reliable power you then will need a clutch with maybe a flywheel to cure the dmf vibration at low revs, remap and a fmic to give you reliable power. Price all this and your loking at £1800-£2200 depending on which clutch option you take and remap to go for. Makes you think. Should you just get a Cupra TDI.

:)

My Jabba RR result was 195 bhp/323 lb/ft

Don't think it produces quite that much power :o

More in the region of 170 m'thinks.

201 bhp @ Top Gear Performance in Doncaster - very peaky graph (not much of an overead eh?)

170 bhp @ Well Lane Turbo Centre :D - a lot more accurate, but interestingly a lot smoother

Chris.

Gone Fishin??

:P

Wow

Right yes the brakes.

Bigger brakes are good to go for if you are looking at modding

We have been looking at the big brake kits.

I can provide them now for £270.00 + VAT this is with the discs and pads

These are made by

Fitting would be

Icould talk about Tunit all day these are excellent.

The 130PD will go up to 155bho out of the box.

There is also the opportunity of lap top tuning that could give you approx 20bhp

Ani roll bar is a good mod and will improve the handling

Clutch I would not worry about until it is required. It could last you quite a while if you use it correctly

Sarah

The phone shave been stupid just now and I can talk quicker than typing , so why not pop along for a brew and a chat sometime?

Hi Sarah,

Thanks very much for that. A brew and a chat sounds like a good idea, but I won't be in a position to do any of this untile at least next year, so would feel a bit of a fraud taking up your time, if I'm not buying:( .

You going to nay meets soon? maybe a chat over drink there could be an idea!
