lowering Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Who has experience with lowering an octavia?

Is it the same as for example lowering a VW bora (jetta)?

I was thinking about 18" rims with 5cm (approx 2 inches) lowering springs.

Anyway, if you can tell me what you guys have (rims + lowering) and preferably a picture to compare ;) I would be very gratefull...

Cheers

Berre

Hi, Berre. Lots of members have lowered their Octavias. There is general advice here, plus I suggest you do a search (use advanced search button at the top right) for suspension lowering.

Yes it is the same as the Golf IV and the Bora.

Confusion comes with some RSs, the rear is Golf the front is TT :D

You forgot to mention that Skoda do sump guards, helps avoid those wet black lines on the road or had you forgoten

Hi Berre,

You don't say what type of Octavia you are starting with.

I have a L&K TDi Estate & have fitted the Eibach ProKit, which is a set of lowered springs (less 30mm), whilst keeping the std dampers, this gives a ride height of about 5mm lower than a vRS. This kit doesn't make the ride too hard, you just get the occasional tump on very poor surface breakup.

They have made a world of difference to the stability and handling & have greatly reduced body roll. The only downside is that the Octavia doesn't have great ground clearance at std ride height, now I have to pay speed humps great respect!

This is the cheaper way of lowering - others will extol the virtues of spring/damper kits! - I guess it depends on your budget.

Hello

I've droped my RS by a further 30-35 mm and have 18" rims with 225/40 tyres. If you're worried about wheel arches and scrubbing tyres, don't be. No problem at the rear, even with some weighty loads from the local DIY emporium. Having closely examined the front wheel arch liners (by removing them) I have found a couple of scuffing points, the worst one on the offside inside when on full lock to the nearside (if you follow). Cure was to take shears to the the plastic liner around the affected area, problem solved..... :D

Hi Lee,

Note that you have lowered your RS another 30-35mm - how do you get on with sump>ground clearance and have you got special "speedhumpless" routes plotted??

Yes and no, I have noted that the middle box of my aftermarket S/S exhaust sticks out a little, but I've never heard it grate on the tarmac when traversing speed humps - I do drive v-e-r-y slowly over them though!

However, I never drive straight over the top of those little square humps you sometimes encounter They being the ones which are insufficiently wide to make contact with the tyres. I worry these might rip in to the exhaust box so always drive one side of the car over these. How they work as a traffic calming measure I have no idea because normal cars drive over them at normal speed!.

Only thing to watch for is clagging the bottom of the front bumper/air intake bits into a kerb when parking at the shops or the like!
