Hi all

I'm looking at the possibility of buying a Skoda Octavia petrol (around X,Y, or 51 Reg) car. Whats the MPG consumption on these? I thought that petrol would be best as it would mostly be used as a town runabout rather than any motorway mileage.

Im not sure if I'd want to pay extra to buy a diesel, as I said, its mostly for town and school runs.

What sort of price am I looking to pay for an X reg octavia? Does high mileage in petrol cars matter?

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a high mileage (as in around 100k or so) Octavia, although I think a 1.4 or 1.6 would be pretty leggy by then.

I think the economy is pretty poor on the 1.8 and 2.0 N/A engines, but slightly better on the 1.8T. Not talking from experience though, just hear say.

Whilst the extra to fork out for a diesel may not pay for itself in economy, I think the longevity is superior over the petrol engine, and the extra wodge of torque would make it more drivable, so thats where my money would be tbh...
