A6 All-Road - proper Quattro?

Featured Replies

One for the techies - does the A6 All-Road have the proper Quattro system, or does it use a Haldex controller to shift the power about?

Cheers,

Steve

Sorry I'm not a techie but it does use proper 4WD without a Haldex.

It uses a Torsen system like all other 4WD VAG cars with longitudinally mounted engines, quattro is merely a brand name nowadays.

Eddy - my question really revolved around rolling roads, following today's trip to Awesome. Could one of these go on without problems, like you 4x4 guys have?

Although it's always engaged unlike Haldex it still constantly varies as it's not a fixed front-rear split. It sends more torque to the axle with most grip much like the haldex does. So in this respect it can still be problematic to get accurate figures on a rolling road as power will be switching between axles as the diff will be seeing grip changing between front and rear axles almost as if the car is wheel spinning.

Only fixed split 4WD's can be easily and accurately rolling roaded or in the case of haldex equipped cars they can be run accurately if forced into 2wd mode.
