New Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Just to say hello and ask a few questions

- gonna get a new Octavia vRS after spending a few days test driving cars (VW Audi BMW etc). Easily best car for price/performance was Octavia vRS ((new)

Have to say that the dealer was rubbish and wasn't able to answer my questions about the options list!

Good ICE is important to me as is Sat Nav - Is the Sat Nav any good? - postcode entry, mapping etc - the dealer knew nothing about this - said he thought it was a bit expensive! - my last car was broken into for the Tom Tom unit (left bracket on windscreen) so I want a car with it built in.

Can anyone explain the ICE options - brochure does not make it clear whats standard, what are the factory options etc - anyone know about sound quality and MP3 playback? and whats dealer options?

Thanks in advance

Tim

Welcome back to Briskoda.

Firstly don't get the Nav option - Read this!! Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide

The Aux in socket is crap and isn't compatible with the Navigation unit.

You can get a VAG branded Denison Icelink which occupies the CD changer connector on the HU. - Octavia-vRS.com - Ipod Adaptor

Thanks for reply - read your link about retro fitting a sat nav.

Not clear though re sat nav - is this just the standard version but cheaper to DIY or are you talking about a better than standard unit.

The e-bay links suggest that the MFD 2 is the standard unit?

Cheers

Welcome.......Which dealer was rubbish??

Dont get the Diesel, Its got a Diesel Particle filter, seriously limits the cars potential & is likely to cause problems in the future, its new technology to get round the latest emission rules & manufacturers are having major problems with them. Also you may not be able to run Bio Diesel if you are enviromentally conscious as its clogs some types of filters.

If you fancy tuning the car in the future then definately dont get the diesel

Are you sure? do you just mean the VRS diesel or any diesel ? Is it really this bad?

The Octy VRs Diesel has one, The Superb 140 Diesel has one, weve got that car & its already failed badly. I believe there are no other cars in the Skoda range with one at this stage.

Its a different design on the Octy so might be better but its all new technology & its causing major problems for other manufactureres as well.

having just unknowingly bought a lemon I would advise anyone thinking of buying a Diesel to avoid these until the technology is proven

I have the 2.0 TDI Octy 2, I have read your other thread and I am hoping that this problem will not effect me as I have a regenerating filter. Good Luck with the Superb

Dealer that was rubbish was Pulleyn in York - totally uninterested in selling a car.

Gonna go to Harrogate dealer (next closest) and see if they want my business (£20k in cash to spend - just want to get options right from the start!)

Cheers

BTW - gonna be a petrol defo

you could try Bickertons in Sheffield, I used to live there and use them, they are good.... (tho never spoke to a salesman, just servicing) and they have a link to briskoda on their web-site :)

Yes it's the OEM unit but for about 1k less if you do it yourself.

Thanks Stu - searched out the long thread about the MFD2 Sat Nav - obviuosly DIY is the way to go - thanks for the heads up

Did my own ICE in outgoing BMW coupe so this should be ok

- is it any good though - as a player - sound quality?

or what about ease of fitting aftermarket alpine/pioneer double din unit as an alternative?

Finally can MFD 2 control one of these DVD changers

SatNav Systems

to get MP3 and DVD pics etc?

(I may be better posting this on the specific Octy forum!)

Tim

Sound quality is as good as the Stream. Ideal method of operation is the Nav Disk in the unit and the Changer/Ipod for the tunes.

I've read that some of the US guy's are using those DVD's but with which units I don't know.

Try www.vwNavi.com

Maybe he was the Subaru guy - or was just having an off day but he could not or would not explain any of the options/standard features and just gave us a brochure suggesting we come back if we are interested - at one point he actually answered the phone that started ringing on his desk whilst I was sitting in front of him trying to show real interest and trying to get information - didn't say excuse me or anything just picked it up as I was asking him a question!!

Defo the rudest saleman I have ever met - I am a Sales Manager myself with a team of sellers working for me so I know whats important with customers and potential customers.

Plenty more dealers out there to take my money - booked another test drive with Benfield in Harrogate and the Sales guy sounded much more positive on the phone - seemed to know his products also - which is a good thing!

Cheers
