Test Drive

Featured Replies

Hello all,

thought I'd share with you the few hours I spent driving both versions of the Octy vrs yesterday.

I live in Spain and, apart from white taxi's, you don't see many Octavia's over here (I do about 400km a week and have NEVER seen a vrs).

When I found out that a vrs diesel was being released, I ran down to my local dealer who told me it would take him a month or so to get an expo model. Well he called me about a week ago to say that it had arrived. Went down there on my lunch break and when I asked for a test drive, I was told that it would have to wait until the demo model arrived (another month... ). When the sales person saw the deception on my face, he told me that Skoda Spain were touring the country with 10 vrs and would be in Seville the following weekend.

So yesterday morning, I got in my car and drove 220km up to Seville where I found that Skoda had set up a pretty impressive test course with professional driving instructors. And of we went, testing both diesel & petrol versions, once with ABS, TCS & ESP off and once with all the aids on. Braking & avoiding obstacles in wet conditions.

I have to say that it was worth the trip, even got a vrs cap, t-shirt & pen. I just got to wait a few more weeks so that I can do a real road test in a diesel vrs combi and make sure I can get it into my "small" parking space before placing my order!!!

So, what did you think of them both then.........?

We don't get any freebies like that over here, in fact UK customers seem to be getting a pretty raw deal reading some of the current threads regarding Skoda UK :thumbdwn:

Glad you enjoyed your day. Which version did you like best?

It was a geat day...

The model I preferred was the diesel combi with 18 inch wheels. The only thing left for me is to see pictures of one in white (anyone with pictures, please post them...) before I make my final decision...

The petrol version is great but most of the power seems high up. The diesel on the contrary has a lot of low down shove. Personally I prefer torque than power and with the mileage I do, diesel is the sensible choice.

Sorry but I disagree. The petrol VRs pulls hard all through the rev range and in many respects in terms of low down torque is similar to a diesel, - peak torque is at 1800 rpm. And, the petrol VRs will continue pulling all through the rev range rather than giving big chunks of torque and then falling away like the diesel does.

It's all down to personal taste.

I've been driving diesels for the past 10 years and have probably got used to them.

Don't get me wrong, the petrol vrs was unbelievable and being able to go up to the redline in a petrol car was excilirating...But no matter what, the diesel has my vote. It just seems a lot easier to drive in "real world" conditions.

Another supporter of Skoda Diesels!

2.0 TDi has constant torque of 340 Nm in the range from 1,500 - 2,600 rev/min. Common driving is exactly within this range so is the best fuel economy.

What is the Nm peak for gasoline engines? At which rev/min?

I opt for diesel. :D

thanks for the link, exactly what I was looking for...

I think it looks the dogs bo***ks!!!

What do you all think???

Looks really nice in White, if you buy one just dont go to Madrid as everyone will think you are a taxi.

looking like a taxi is my main worry, but they say white is the new silver!!!

Going to be a tough decision, White, Blue or Silver

I think the red or yellow ones looks the most sportiest. they seam to have that loud "look at me" factor, that the others lack. no offence to the others.....

I really like it in white actually, possible more than Black. I think the estate looks better in white too...
