vrs estate or hatch

Featured Replies

hi,

i am looking at trading in my 2001 audi A4 tdi sport to get a octavia vrs,

i have seen a few but i can't decide between the hatch and the estate...my audi is a saloon but i'm thinking about possibly getting the estate for chucking the bike in etc,

i was wondering how much difference there is in performance, the 0-60 times aren't much different, but is the handling and overall performance worse on the estate?

cheers

phil

Not to sure on the handling and th 0-60 times, think there is only 0.2 between the Hatch and estate.

Are you talking mk1 or mk2 ? and if mk2 petrol or diesel ?

I'm liking the look of the mk2 estate over the hatch.

its the mk1 vrs i've been looking at.

originally i wanted a hatchback as not usually a fan of estates but i had a look around the local dealer today and seen an estate which was nice, not actaully seen a hatch yet though.

I have got an mk1 hatch and i love it.

I have only driven the sline A4 my mate has and it drives the same and feels the same, but i never drove it hard, so cant really compare them.

The big difference is the wheels, 16" on the estate and 17" on the hatch.......you won't notice any difference in the performance between the two.....the estate may be a little more tail heavy but still goes and corners very well, the load area in the estate is huge ...got a chest freezer in mine with the back seats up and the back door shut

I had a Mk1 vRS estate (pics here) and it handled pretty well. As Octygone said the boot is enormous - very surprising for a car based on the Golf chassis.

If there is a possibility that you want to put bikes/freezers/washing machines/dead bodies in it I would highly recommend one.

The main thing that put me off the hatch is that there are some cross-braces behind the back seat, so even with the seats down the load capacity is a bit limited.

Edit: Found a pic of the braces in the hatch to show what I mean......

I agree with Andy :)

Plus, people get an even bigger shock when they get trashed by an estate.

I have an estate and I have been very pleased with it.

and the fact that the number of time that something has tried to see me off thinking that I was an SDI taxi only to be left for dead is so much fun.

the other great advantage of the estate over the hatch is you dont get a wet boot from the rain on the hatch!

I have the mk1 hatch and am very impressed with the space in the boot but as mentioned the metal bars across the boot do limit the load space when the seats are down which is a problem when using the car for moving house. I wish I had bought the estate, I wanted the estate when I bought this but couldn't wait that little bit longer to save the extra money to buy the estate, now I have to look at getting another estate car and cant afford the new vrs estate:mad:

Pi$$ing boot.

I once had a tumble drier and a 600mm wide oven both in their packaging in the estate with the door closed.

You can sit in it easily or sit on the sill under the door and keep dry in the rain.

If it's space your worried about then you could fit Lisa Riley in the boot of the hatch back, her and her not so good looking sister in the estate. I have the Hatch back and it is the biggest boot I have ever seen on a hatch back. The police use the Hatch for their persuit cars so I guess they prefer the handeling of that to the slightly heavier estate.
