ive got the inspection light come on at 35k. is this normal or is something wrong?

just turn the ignition on (the one before turning the engine on) and hold the trip computer reset button for 10 secs IIRC and it'll disappear. It happens quite often, usually when dealers forget to move the car onto it's next service using VAG-COM.

i was gonna say! it only had a service done at 30k!

If you do that then the car will be out of sync with your servicing. Return it to the dealers and ask them to set the correct interval using VAS.

Just tried to reset the light on my Octavia by holding trip reset and then turning on the ignition to just before start and continuing to hold reset. But the service indicator just comes on solid instead of flashing ...... can't get it to go away. Any ideas???

Found the page this time!

- Hold Trip Reset

- Turn the ignition key while continuing to hold the trip reset

- Service indicator stays on solid

- Turn the clock set switch to the right and service indicator goes out
