Schwarz last drove for Skoda in 2001

German rally star Armin Schwarz will drive for Skoda this season, when the marque will compete in a limited programme in the WRC.

Schwarz, who has agreed a two-year deal with Skoda, last drove for the Czech manufacturer from 1999-2001, before departing for rival Hyundai. However, he was left without a drive for this season following the withdrawal of the Korean firm.

Skoda will only participate in selected events this season, as it focuses on developing its Fabia WRC. Schwarz, who replaces former WRC champion Didier Auriol in the team, is highly regarded for his testing and development skills.

During Schwarz's last stint at Skoda, he secured some of the marque's best results in the unwieldy Octavia WRC, finishing fourth on the Monte Carlo Rally and third on the Safari in 2001.
