PD150 Turbo.

Featured Replies

I have the chance to fit this Turbo to my car. Would i need to change anything else along with it, or is it a direct bolt on, including mapping? The price i can get it at, is reasonable. Any thought's on this?

The turbo is what i believe called a VNT17.

Straight swap. It will work with your current map no problem, although to get any power gain you will need to re-remap. :)

In your opinion, would it be worth it? I realise, it wont be as snappy, and more grunt mid-range, which to be honest is what i'm looking for.

If you have an uprated clutch, FMIC and its under

Clutch, no problem there. FMIC, no problem there, Re-map no problem there either. Price of the turbo is £300, with 4,000 miles on it.

I hope you tell your insurance company.....

My bother with his R8 will pay for it.

I've had my eye on the same turbo i think but have got other things i need to sort first. :D Although i've spoken to a few breakers and they go for around £200 when available....

I've been quoted £350-£450 depending on condition of the turbo for a hybrid conversion so for £650-750 it would be a cheap route to a reliable 200bhp+

Think the only difference between the gt1749va(B) A being Pd130 golf based. B PD150/PD160 is the shaft is stronger to allow more boost. Think around 0.1bar more.

Can the shaft be changed easily? If so that could mean £500 garret hybrid....which is very tempting :D

No the shaft is the same, the difference is the compresssor wheel diameters, they are slightly larger but the outside housing is the same.

Hope it has all the right bolts with it......or are they screws. Oh well don't spos it matters much.

I thought it had a stronger shaft  Thats why it can hold more boost.

:rofl::rofl: I wonder who you've been speaking too!

Cant remember the exact measurements but the compressor and turbine are a larger diameter, i have seen them side by side. The shaft is the same and for a given boost pressure the shaft would be spinning slower because of the larger wheels so in reality doesnt need to be strenghtened.

For the money I've been told the 150 turbo isn't really a worthwhile mod for the vRS, far better saving a little more for a VNT20!!!

Not even for

In the long run I think the hybrid will give more :D :D but at a cost of £500 more.

so i hav no clue about turbos, i hav a re-mapped fab vrs, sachs clutch is going in when i get back from my hols but apart from the PD160 airintake pipe its standard. would the pd150 turbo just fit on no probs with no other mods? how will this improve the performance? 200bhp sounds nice, but is it evenly distributed through the revs? and what about torque increase figures?

Its not something ill be doing anytime soon but id like to no my options!

For a minute, I thought Snoopie was putting a PD150 turbo on his CTR :)

Can't knock the thread resurrection though, . ............ people always nagged to use a search :)

Not a straight fit. Believe tghe compressor housing needs rotaing.

To simple put its the turbo from a cupra pd160. So add a fmic and your car would be similar spec so expect similar results (with a remap to take the turbo into account) as a remapped cupra tdi.

Would it fit? I might PM the seller.... :P

was this evfer resolved - does a PD150 turbo fit without messing around with the housing?

  • Author

IIRC, Yes it does, but it's not worth it, unless you upgrade the clutch.

Your final figures will be 180-185 bhp.

Standard turbo figures are 160-170.

Really worth it????
