1.8T L&K OCTAVIA

Featured Replies

Just got myself a 1.8T Octavia L&K Auto. Logged onto this web site and wondered if any of you guys and girls had any comments about known problems or what to look out for in the future as far as maintanence is concerned.

Welcome to Briskoda. The L&K is a lovely car.

I suppose the main thing to keep an eye out for with the 1.8T is coil packs. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much anyone can do to "maintain" these - you simply have to get them replaced if they go.

I've heard hearsay that the wheels should be swapped round regularly, because of a risk of the wheelnuts rusting. Maybe one of the other members can clarify if that's the case.

Other than that, you've bought yourself a reliable, quality car. What colour did you get?

Excellent choice of car I couldn't make my mind up between an RS or L&K, but the RS won - could easily have chosen the L&K and considered the 4X4 also.

All excellent cars in there own way, you see what you have paid for with the RS and L&K, its hidden with the 4X4 whose excellent haldex drive is a driving aid especially useful in certain countries and terains.

I test drove a works 4X4 (diesel not 1.8T) in the Krkonose mountains in CZ when it was first lauched excellent to drive but not really required for my driving style or the conditions I encounter during driving. I also ruled out the 4X4 as it has a raised floor lowering the storage capacity, that I fully utilise in the Octavias standard form.

Its good that there are such great cars in the Octavia range that meet the differing requirments of most people even a small 1.4 engined version.

The mention of wheels is probably reffering to the fact that alloy wheels rust weld themselves to the steel hubs making them difficult to remove without force. I found this especially prevalent with my RS rear wheels, so its worth checking wheel removal and possibly applying some copper ease type grease to the mating areas in case of the need to remove for a puncture at the side of teh road. Its got to be remembered that a wheel could stay unremoved on the hub for up to 20,000 miles. I and others have experienced this problem on the RS after low milages but cannot speak for the L&K alloys.

L&K? Nice.............

Unfortunately, I'm handing back my company L&K estate next week. I've had a very good, unstressed year's motoring out of it, driving down as far as the Spanish border. As far as coils go, it seems that RS's and chipped cars are more prone to these problems. We have 3 RS's on our fleet -1 pre-facelift, and 2 post facelift, plus my L&K -and only the two facelifted RS's have ever had any problems.

The only points about L&K are that it's a pain to mask the (xenon) headlights for continental travel. You might want to think about replacing the front door speakers, too.

I'll have a pair of Alpines for sale next week!

Phil,

I may be interested in the Alpines,

Which model are they ??

Thanks

Graham

I haven't got the faintest clue -even though I put 'em back in the box yesterday! I'll have a look tonight.
