Engine cutting out - 'S' GLXi

Featured Replies

Hi,

Have been experiencing that my S plate Octavia 1.6 GLXi is cutting out when coming to a stop and also when slowing down.

I have read alot about Relay 109 but think this is a diesel problem. Could this be problem that I am experiencing?

Any information on this matter would be a help.

Thanks,

juggins

What colour is your relay 109?

It might not affect just dervs, but on a petrol car it could be sparks, coils, and lots of other things as well as that relay.

Flywheel position sensor? or idle stepper motor? perhaps

IIRC. Relay 109 tends to kill the engine regardless of wether you are slowing down or not.

(not familiar with the petrol Octy)

Sounds a lot like one of:-

1) the idle speed is too low

2) the over-run fuel cut-off isn't cutting back in when it should

3) the throttle cable is too tight (had this one myself when I tried adjusting it on one car).

Thanks for the help.

The relay 109 (which i think I have found) is black, but does not say that it is a relay 109 on it, but third from the right when looking at from underneath!

Have a search but i think the replacement 109 was a grey unit, however as JR said on the dervs it tends to just kill it at random rather than at specific instances.

the first thing i would do is take off the throttle body and gve it a clean

Thanks, can you give me a help in where to start in cleaning the throttle body? I'm not that much of a techie, but willing to get me hands dirty!

Cheers,

you might want to buy yourself a copy of the haynes for your octy.

Just to close this blog off. Wife got me to take it to the garage and get it sorted. Did not want me messing about!

Anyway after some diagnostic stuff they found that the Air Mass Meter needed changing, once changed then the car was still not running right so more investigation found that the Breather Hose had split and needed changing.

Thanks for all whom helped.
