Upgrade to Xenon?

Featured Replies

I am looking to upgrade my headlights to Xenon status. It got me thinking after reading the number plate LED thread. I see there are quite a few sites on the internet that offer a H7 upgrade kit.

Has anyone out there purchased a Xenon kit? If so which one / was it any good / what would you recommend / was it easy to fit / etc?

I did look at the Autobulbs kit: H7 X3 6000K HID Conversion Kit :: H7 H.I.D. Kits :: Xenon H.I.D Kits :: Autobulbs Direct Ltd - Xenon bulbs, car bulbs, wiper blades, headlight, Osram, Ring, Philips

I want to buy my Fabia a nice Xmas present so any help would be great.

Cheers.

if you do retro fit them, make sure you install the self-leveling stuff and headlight washers

A lot of the aftermarket kits don't come with this though and I don't believe it's a legal requirement..... Personally, I wouldn't bother with the hassle and would just get better halogen bulbs :D

Chris

An aftermarket H7 xenon bult fitment won't require the self levelling / washer stuff

the autolevel/washer is only required for kits / cars with the D xenon (the one which look like oyster eggs)

ScoobyChris & tfboy, yes, I didn't think the after market ones needed the headlamp levelling because it uses the reflector in the same way as a halogen bulb.

But maybe just getting better bulbs would be better - an mean that I can afford a bigger Xmas present for myself. :D

I have them in my fabia, really easy to install, however i have to have them pointing quite far down as fabia headlamps dont have caps to cover the bulbs

I have the aftermarket Hi/Lo H4 kit for the main / dipped beam and the H3 driving / Fog light kits fitted, I have gone from Ring 50% uprated bulbs and the difference is amazing I would fit HID kits to any car I buy in future without a second thought.

The self leveling / washers are only required on the OEM fitment and not the aftermarket kits otherwise why would the aftermarket kits be 'E' Marked which in itself makes them suitable for road use!!

I bought the H3 kit off aguy on SCN and it was 20 mins to fit, the H4 Kit was bought off on of the guys on here and took a little more but I checked the kit with some of the more expensive ones available and just about all of the kit was identical, including the ballasts!!!

Go For it!! I wouldn't go paying £230 for them though, I bought both sets for lesss than this!!!

Misinformed....see post above!!!

if you look, I used the word "retrofit" which would imply using an OEM system, where washers and self leveling would be needed :)

I don't think you can retrofit the OEM one easily.

Even if you could get hold of all the ballasts, washer jets pumps, tubing, level sensor (on the rear left wheel), as the car came from factory without the xenons, you won't have the cabling in place for the level sensor.

I looked into this seriously, and speaking to our now retired expert (sniff sniff :(), it would be full seats out, carpet up job to add the extra loom

yup, it's not exactly an easy job!

Neither is changing any of the bulbs on a Fabia already fitted with Xenons!

lol :)
