New Furby VRS Arrived

Featured Replies

I have been tearing about in the VRS getting used to it since Sat!!!

Already feel like a PRO and was designed to live in these seats :D

I have a small, small problem (or two)

What the hell is the odd button next to the rear heater about ? Forget what its called now, but it doesn't seem to do much....

Secondly, should I be brave enough to do what I did on my old Ferby, and drill wee little holes in the column for a Sony Remote Commander?

I love the commander ( I got the MP3 model ICE)....but I just cant bear myself to vandalise this lovely new car.

I could glue/epoxy to the column but wouldn't that be just as bad as drilling ?

Self adhesive pads just suck....pity they don't stick instead :)

I'd have to dismantle the plastics a bit anyway before I get around to this, perhaps I should be patient and wait until an opportune moment later when I decide to have the retrofit cruise installed.

Anyone else got one of these and any approach to fitting work best ?

Cheers

i'm assuming you mean the ASR button ? this turns the traction control off when pressed and illuminates the warning lamp on the dash to say its off

Oh and I bet everyone else probably thinks whose this guy driving like a complete [****] !! lol ( well so long as I continue to delude myself, everyone is happy)

Yeah thats the one !! Is Traction control optional? I probably don't even have it.

 Youre having a laugh!!! ......I hope!!!;)

ASR is std on vRS, cuts power when it senses wheels spinning, as mentioned if the light is on in the binnacle then the system is turned off.

Cool, thats useful to know.

And no ... I am not kidding about the commander. It mounts on two weeny screws into plastics.....I fixed it up on the last Ferby and it take too tiny drill holes to allow it to mount.

I *just* can't face it on this Ferby tho (especially with the leather wheels, stick etc which is class)

Is there any non-damaging way I could get it stuck on - reversible ? On the 1.4 I have just put some black tape over tiny holes / damage :) I am sure SWMBO don't mind :D

Adhesive magnets?

You need to remove the steering wheel to get the plastic coloumn shround off.

I like the idea of magnets (like the other side of the plastics - on each side?) but is there any danger it could screw with anything? Where on earth would you go to get the right thing ?

Like Stu says to remove the plastics is quite an intense job and I think if thats the case I would wait until I get the guts to want Cruise, which is seems also requires the same amount of plastics off. Hes in mind for that job...

Frankly its way to new at the moment to contemplate this just yet...I miss the controller but not so keen to rip her apart yet...I was just hoping for a "workaround", the ICE went in easy enough but I really miss that stalk and was hoping for a damage free "bodge".

Y'know Im surpised the ICE guys ain't come up with a damage free-sort of mount for that sort of application yet but I guess the problem is the lack of screws.

I was even thinking of something that might hook into the recess of the stalk to hang a mount but I guess thats highly impractical.

I have a SE car kit which has a commander type thing that I used to have stuck on my Fabia and is now stuck in the Octy ok.

Did you manage to get it fixed entirely without damage? I am somewhat doubting this, but worth checking.

Why not try silicone sealer? I use Unibond translucent bathroom sealer in an aerosol can. It does everything from acting as a gasket in the engine on my BMW bike to sticking blind spot mirrors on the car dash. Easy to use, does not damage the surface in any way, and can be removed reasonably easily. Just needs a bit of rubbing to remove.

Yep, sticks perfectly. Used number plate double sided tabs and make sure to clean the area with meths first.

Alternatively, what about above the stereo? I've screwed my PDA mount and have a cable for my handsfree on the blanking buttons (next to the rear screen heater / ASR buttons). If you don't have other options such as heated seats and ESP, you'll have some blanks which can be savaged and then replaced when you remove the kit :)

Thanks for those suggestions guys. I may not *actually* do it straight away but it helps that when I get around to it it can be damage-free.

Interesting angle on the alternate mount location, but I have become intuitive to actually looking for my stereo control on the steering controls.

This is so much the case, that its almost a safety issue! However I am just resolving to use the stereo less / think about driving concentration as the important bit is getting used to the car.

On that note.....stalled at least twice already at pull away ! Not used to revs on the diesel models and I seem to have got away with less revs in my petrol.
