Add a turbo to an SDI??

Featured Replies

Is it possible to simply add a Turbo to an SDI? I presume (possibly stupidly) that the dimensions of the 1.9 SD & TD are similar? Has anyone tried this?

engine block is the same size... it would be easier to just fit the whole engine tho, rather than just changing little bits of it, many of the internal components ar heavier duty in the turbocharged versions..

also it's not a straight swop for a pd engine, you'd have to use one of the earlier pump injected tdi units as fitted to the octavia

much easier and probably cheaper to sell your SDi and buy a TDi tbh :)

Agreed + insurance would be tons cheaper too I'd imagine :)

Is there any chipping that could be done, 10-20% increase in performance would be plenty? I've seen loads online about chipping TDI units, how about sdi?

* i say this with caution, awaiting being corrected by sombody*

as far as i know there aren't any chips available for the sdi

You can map nearly any engine, but the gains on an N/A diesel would be slim tbh.

Maybe try a resistor box thingy off eBAY. About £20 and cons the ECU into thinking the fuel is colder, thus pumping more in and giving more performance. Got to be worth a go.

Sell it get a TDI or save up get a PD13/2.0TDI car

Hey Irishskoda...from a fellow countryman. I've sent you a PM

AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT pay twenty fookin quid for a 6p resistor.

:iagree:

I'll post you such a resistor if you want to chock up your EGR system with soot ;)

You can definately do a turbo on it, but it really really isn't worth doing.
