Yes, my 1.4 TDi will get 800 miles out of a tankful if I use the "nipple". Not a lot of point normally, but reassuring. 56mpg overall is low. I average 70 with all types of driving and live in not very flat north Wales.

I once saw 720 on the range indicator after a period of driving like your gran but didn't have the patience to see how far out it was.

How much more can you get in with the expansion tank trick? If the total is 50 litres, even then you need to average 73mpg. I think the extra urban figures for the 1.4 are around 70mpg. you could only do it to prove a point.

I can get no more than 500 miles even fully using the expansion tank trick. I don't think any fabia could get 800 miles unless using a second fuel tank and the skinniest tyres available. (and grandad slippers)

the tank and expansion area holds over 50 litres , iirc i've put about 50.5ltrs in only for the pump at the local Sainsburys to time out and turn off, so still could of put more in .

I also need to get out of town... I'm really trying hard to get a good figure out of this tank, but my trip reads 44mpg so far, so it's probably only going to be 42! :(

I get 550 miles out of the octy per tank consistantly, Perhaps the ebayer meant 600 miles and not 800.

I decided to check, so I asked him. This was the response:

Dont know what im doin wrong then, even driving like miss daisy i never see past 430 to a tnak.

i'm nearing 500 miles now , with a 100 left on the range , hardly been on the motorway this week , just driving around town which has knocked my consumption down slightly
