Crack in the rear end

Featured Replies

Ello all!

Well, heres the long and short of it...

Parents bought a TV from a certain highstreet store. The shop assistants were loading the TV into the back of the car and they whacked the bumper causing a peice of it to separate. This is currently being sorted via the shops insurance.

However, some one told me that the car shouldnt be driven on the road as the bumper is an MOT defect and would give 3points and a fine (ooooh I just got a whiff of popcorn- back to the matter in hand however the foam behind the bumper is still there and so Im just wondering if its ok for them to drive about in the car while its being sorted?

i don't think the rear bumper is an MOT testable item and as its not at the front it cannot be classed as dangerous bodywork liable to cause injury to a predestrian ,how many Mondeos have you seen with damaged bumpers driving about ? loads i would imagine , so i wouldn't worry about it

edit , if it was a metal bumper with an end cap missing that would be a different matter

Even if it was a fail, some duck tape over it would see that right.

Never had a problem driving my old mondeo with the rear bumper smashed to pieces, nor my old crash damaged granada without a rear bumper. That one looks fine to me, I see worse daily on my commute to work.

Sticking my neck out, but as a serving Officer I would recommend you just pop some duck tape over it until the insurance sort it.

If another bobby stops you then not only has he has got better eyesight than me, but he really needs to find him (or her ! ) self some proper work !

I am not a Traffic cop, but I can honestly say that in thirteen years of coppering I have never seen anyone get a ticket for something like that, it's on the verge of "dangerous parts" under the construction and use act, but that would be being really really really pedantic !

Around my neck of the woods the only time I ever see a copper anyway is in the locker room !

As above, Stick some duck tape over to cover any sharp edges and you will be fine.

Are you sure its crack? It looks like a bag of heroin in your bumper to me ;)
