Question for those who purchased sump guard

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

As some of you may know I'm now selling my car - I just had the garage remove my sump guard as someone wants to buy it. Collected it today and they've given me the sump guard and a big metal bar (I'm sure there's a technical term for it). Thing is, I don't remember the bar arriving with the sump guard. Is my memory failing me or has the garage removed something they shouldn't have?

Jonathan

P.S. I have the Audi TT brake upgrade available if anyone is interested - used for approx 10 months. I live in N.I. but will be driving from Fleetwood to Reading on Sunday evening.

Is the bar kind of straight with about three or four drill holes through it, and at each end it has sticky out bits going in opposite directions? If so, then that it part of the kit. :)

I would say you need one for rally marshalling :)

Does it come with instructions? ;)

I've been to rally GB every year for the last 4 years. There's a large group of us that go along from Borough 18 motor club. There are usually around 8 cars in convoy including lowered BMW Mini's, lowered Audi S3's etc, which do scrape a little. But cos you're not going fast it does no more damage than loose chippings on a newly tarmac'd road.

BUT i'd still like a sump guard for my car, just didn't think anyone made them for non-competition skoda's......

Any idea on cost......... anyone?????

Seems expensive as we're in the run up to xmas. Will look into it after though!!

It's highly recommended especially if you lower the car/are in an area where you could even possible hit the sump.

The standard plastic cover just won't protect much, it's very thin & not in the least effective if you were to actually hit something. The main job of the plastic one seems to be to absorb some noise + keep some crud out of the engine bay.

The group buy has been dragging on for about a year now I reckon since the original one, so glad I spent the dosh at the time.

IIRC one or two people got one made themselves in the end as they got fed up waiting, or bought from others who are selling up.

The fitting is fairly straight-forward unless you have a FMIC in which case you may have to get a bracket fabricated and/or result to bending around the pipework. I had mine custom bracketed to work around this issue

Another thing you could do is to add a little foam sound proofing on the 'engine side' of the protector, reduces the noise a little as otherwise the sound bounces off the metal a bit more. Not a problem, you can tell though.

The kit came with the plate, sound proofing (in my case), the bar + IIRC a few bolts etc. It has been a while since it was fitted though :D

As for it being expensive - yep but it is aluminium, it is not all that light, and it was custom made at low volume - my custom bracket was another 50 quid IIRC

Prob have a go at making one myself, using the undertray as a template. I'm an aircraft mechanical engineer so shoud be able to find some sheet ally knocking about at work...... might even have some foam rubber somewhere too......

Fair play to you - you could make a nice little side line out of that! :D

Would be interested to see how you get on, be sure to document with photos along the way

So does that meanif i'm prepared to make a few, you'd want one...... :rubchin:

In fairness, if you were prepared to make a batch of them and the cost wasn't too excessive, I reckon there may be a few in that GB thread ;)

I was obviously too subtle in earlier posts - I'm getting the one that started this thread off :D;)
