The sensible mans mods?

Featured Replies

I just been having a good read on the forum using the search facility trying to decide on what mods I will choose to do to my car.

Currently I have a black magic furbie vrs with PD 160 intake with pipercross filter and the TT wheel arch mod. So pretty much standard car.

I enjoy reading about the big mods lots of peeps have done and I think it is great the way you have personalised your cars however for me personally my ultimate goal in the future is to keep my furby for a daily driver and suppliment it with a proper sports car like a lotus.

My only serious gripe with my furby as many on here say is the handling especially body roll. It feels sorted at low speed but as soon as you hit any corner at speed it just wallows and makes me feel sick.

I'm very dubious about lowering the car as i can't help but think when the car was designed that all of its suspension set up and steering geometry was designed to work at a certain ride hight thus changing that may cause problems. I also hate the idea of a stiff and uncomfortable set up that bounces of the road at the first sign of a bump. I like the lotus idea of quality dampers with softer springs it just makes more sense to me especially on UK roads

A remap sounds like too much fun to miss out on but only once the handling is improved.

So I need some advice on my mods here is what I am considering

1) Pirelli nero tyres

2) Jabba arb

3) uprated dampers with std springs - Koni? sachs? any ideas?

4) remap - considering custom code or tunnit - opinions?

So what do you think peeps?

A bit like you, although I remapped it and banged in a leather interior. Its my everyday car, and I love it!!

I then bought a mint original mk1 MR2 for the fun of having a car that handles and a Subaru Impreza for sheer fun, noise and grip.

I considered an Elise, but the ones worth having are over £12K (111s, 160)

don't know about the Pirellis but they get some good reviews on here

Jabba ARB is the handling mod

i think Koni do shocks that work with the standard springs

Jabba have a special offer on at the moment on their remaps , check in the trading post section

the only problem i foresee is you will need the bigger brake set up after the remap is done

p'nero's rock:thumbup:

Handling wise the Eibachs were excellent for reducing dive, where as the rear ARB stops the body roll quite nicely.

I'd investigate how you find the brakes after that, then perhaps a remap could be good :)
