Skoda Symphony Head Unit

Featured Replies

I've got the above unit in my Furby VRS and have noticed that sometimes when I turn the volume up, the volume jumps down by a few numbers first. I did have the same problem on a Sony unit with a similar volume controller.

It does tend to be when I'm trying to make small adjustments to the volume be it can be a real pain in the **** when I'm trying to crank the volume up and it goes to practically zero!!!

Has anybody else noticed anything similar and if so did you have any problems getting it rectified at the dealer?

Cheers.

Yes, mine does it too, except it only tends to be if I try and change the volume too fast - small increments don't tend to do it, so once I'd found out how to set up the unit so it switches on at approximately the correct volume I haven't had enough problems with it to worry about. I just assumed it was a "feature" of these rather quirky units

Got the same one in my 2001 Octavia vRS and its fine. odd.

Mine did this too...

I don't care now though, I hope it blows up:rofl:

My Girlfriends 05 plate Fabia vRS has just started to suffer from this, tends to skip on small increments sometimes not working at all.

Is it just 4 of us with this problem then?

Anybody else with the same Problem?

only just seen this topic but my silver fabia does this aswell sometimes goes down to 0 volume hahahah

If i turn it mine up to loud it drops volume and sets itself to a volume level that i cannot exceed.

Not sure if its protection for the speakers. ?????????????

not had this problem on my car stereo but i have it on my home hifi (15 year old panasonic) mate says its the volume control that has dirt in it.....

Mine did it, new headunit sorted it out.

now then all, had my vrs octavia one day now and absol buzzin but really don't like the stereo, what is the cheapest (single dad, get violins out!) option to make the stereo sound half decent, how many watts per channel are the syphony stereos, would speaker upgrade and small amp sort out the poor sound quality??? Cheers Vinny.

I don't know if the same thing applies, but Audi Concert Radio/Cassettes (like in my old 99 A3) had a bit of dodgy coding in the software: The volume level was stored in an flash memory chip, and instead of whriting when it was turned on or off, it wrote to it each time the volume was adjusted. After a few years (about 6 typically), the chip went all wierd, and with it went the volume control. It would start playing up when cold.

The Fabia is going into Skoda tomorrow to get this looked at so I will post up the result.

I had this as well, try and turn the volume up or down by 1 click, and it jumps 4 .

Ended up showing the dealer what was happening, and had a new H/U under warranty - However after about 10 months the replancement started doing it, it is STILL doing it, a complete pain, but now cannot be bothered to do anything about it.

BTW, would anyone know why, my RDS has stopped locking onto my local radio station ( Invicta ), whilst travelling, as Southern keeps interfereing. however on another button the Local KMFM station stays locked. Radio1 stays locked - This really is starting to wee wee me off ?

My dealer has ordered me a new radio under warranty so we will see how long this one lasts.

Got my new headunit the other day, all sorted.

If anyone needs a Skoda Symphony instruction manual I now have one going spare, free to a good home.

hi,

I have this problem with this stereo, it is really frustrating, at first i thought it was me going mad.

when i first turn the stereo on i can turn the volume up so it is a decent volume however after a few seconds the volume reduces and changing it from 20 upto 40 makes no difference.

did anyone find a solution to this?

thanks

Just out of interest... what is the going rate for a second hand symphony cd radio as i have removed mine from my VRS.

Hi All,

Differeent problem to above but I hope someone can help. In the book you can set the time on the display to be corrected by RDS stations, but how do you display the time?

I know this has been asked before, but I couldn't find an answer-anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

just to add mines is the same, try to turn it up a bit and it goes down like 10-15 levels, pain in the ****!!

I've got some issues with my current Symphony head unit in my Mk1 Octy. I was looking at buying a replacement off some guy on Ebay. It's the same head unit but from a Superb.

If I was to buy this head unit and make sure I got the radio code, would it work ok in the Octy? Also how do you put in the new radio code? Do you need Vag-Com? My understanding is that the current code is stored on the ECU.

Thanks in advance.

imo the skoda symphony radios are crap? as soon as i can afford it i'm getting a sat nav,dvd player combi installed instead but just need to find decent 2nd hander.

I have the same problem on my symphony stereo in my 04 Fabia vRS. Damn irritating!

Off topic I know but does anyone know how to turn OFF the traffic reports that interupt the CD or radio station you're listening too? I don't have the manual as I bought the car 2nd hand without - have since downloaded one but it doesn't to explain how you do it! Why they can't just have an off button I don't know.
