bleeding brakes

Featured Replies

Hi all, having problems bleeding brakes on my 03 octavia 1.9tdi, bleed all wheels starting at o/s/r working to front getting lots of fluid with no air but brake peddle goes straight to floor cant see any leaks anywhere. Thanks Ric

I think you need to work from the front first.

If you have vag-com then u can use that to help bleed the brakes.. it even tells you the order in which to bleed....

the usuall order is starting at the brake which is furthestaway from the master cylinder, so on a right hand drive car, rear left, rear right, front left, front right!!

when you say the pedal just dropsm does it do it on it's own or when you have your foot on it??

all the time the bleed nipple is open, the pedal will just continue to drop. also be very carefull not to let the fliud level in the resovior to drop below the miminum otherwise the abs hydraulic unit might take a gulp of fresh air and they are very very difficult to bleed once they have air in them.

Don't I know it :(

Ric, I hope you've not flipped the seals in the master cylinder  as that would explain the symptoms you have.

There are 2 bleed nipples on the master cylinder. Have you tried them?

If it's got air trapped in the ABS unit, then it needs VAG-COM or a dealer to sort it out though...

Thanks everyone, i dont have VAG-COM but i think i may have fliped the seals, pedal dont drop on its own only when pressed dont think i got air in ABS level didnt drop below Min,how it started was changing rear disk and pads cut long story short ish piston came out so clap pipe before lost any fluid repaired that put back together bleed brakes simple one would think not for this car, got car booked in at dealers on sat, dose any one know how much master cylinders are,may have to sell a leg. thanks again Ric

this is the right sequence for the octy/mk4 golf..... normally it's done the other wau on most cars... but on these, because of the way the brake lines are routed under the body you do the right ones before the left ones....

it's also worth noting that on the felicia it's done the same as this too, both left and right hand drive models have the servo/master cylinder in the same place, but on the right hand drive models there is a linakage and pushrods that join the pedal to the servo
