Creative MP3 to Symphony HU

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just bought a Creative Micro Photo for SWMBO for xmas.

Will it work with the Skoda IPOD link or Denison Ice-Link? Anyone have any experiance with this unit via the connector?

I'm not worried about changing tracks to much, just as long as it plays through the HU!

Cheers,

Hewesy

To be honest with you I wouldnt think it will work, however the Creative MP3 players tend to have a removeable hard drive setting which would work but wouldnt allow you to use the MP3 player out of the car as an MP3 player :)

The Skoda iPod Link/Dension units will only work with an iPod - you'll need to ues the Aux in...

If you do a search, I posted a link around 3 weeks ago with a link to a site that sells an adapter that plugs into the CD socket at the back of the radio & allows any MP3 player to use the Stereo. thei was for a Skoda Fabia.

Other possibility is you can now buy a small FM transmitter that just plugs in to the headphone socket on the player and then tune the sterio to the desired frequency, told these are very good and go for about 3-4 quid on ebay.

Oooh yes, they are very good! I had one (still do, just dont use it) and they are spot on, and give decent quality. The only problem is that they are illegal (not sure if they still are but they were not so long back) as they are classed as pirate radio - yarrr. Still, I dont think it would be an issue so its an option worth considering. :)

I thought that but when i was in medowhell the other day there were several shop selling them off the shelf at around 30 quid each, so i assume that the legislation must have been passed for the small transmitters

Halfrauds have them too. I think its still illegal but the law is being reviewed for low powered devices such as these, and in the mean time effectivly the authorities are turning a blind eye to the fact that several huge companies are breaking the law by selling them. It is quite confusing though.

Thanks, excusing my ignorance, but is there an aux in on the standard Symphony CDRadio unit? I must dig the manual out.

Cheers for the info.

I did do a search before posting, but didn't see it.

Will try again, thanks

Yes, the symphony is capable of aux in, but you will need to lose the CD changer if thats fitted because the adapter plugs into that socket.

Just to say that FM transmitters are now legal (as of 2 days ago) however I have heard that it is only the ones that boast the "CE" label. Anywho, heres some INFO

I would have thought that you could rig up a cable to the line in that a phone kit uses. Since these connectors are not used with the cd changer you could still retain that. Not sure how ipods and the like connect but I would suspect via a 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack plug, so a female one of these could easily and discretely be added to the dash or the side of the centre console. That would allow you to plug/unplug your mp3 easily, give audio output via the car audio and volume control by either source or car system.

And a tip - if you cant get the original wires with connectors, you can solder a flying lead to the system's connector and pass the wire through the harness connector out to a crimp connector like a bullet or spade.

Phone input is in mono!

Nobody mentioned stereo input! :haha:

Thanks for the responses, Looks like the aux lead for CD changer is the best way forward.

I can't change tracks via the HU, but I'll only use it on long journeys with the missus in the car so no real issue.

Cheers for the tips all,

Hewesy

I have just fitted one of the Connect2 units (CTVSKX001) bought from Nexxia for £54.90 inc delivery.

Easy to fit after removing the head unit , box below, left hand vertical "cover" and the two left hand switch blanks.

the Connect2 unit fits "snugly" between the bottom of the centre vents and the top of the head unit housing. I wrapped athin piece of foam sheet around it to prevent any rattles.

The lead for the Mp3 device is rather short as I fed it down to come out of the small gap above the tray infront of the ashtray. I will be looking for an extension lead to bring it closer to hand.

Connection instructions are on the web site but I had an additional advice to connect the black lead to earth befor connecting the "silver box2 to the head unit.

I used a very small screw [allen key fitted-just] next to the connector block on the head unit, as the earth connection.

It sound just as good as the radio or cd output.

Have fun.

D'ya think it would be possible to rig up a turntable so I can listen to my 78s?

I'm pretty sure they have recently been legalised.

I think it became legal a day or two after my post tbh

Correct - however, there's one catch - the only low-power FM transmitters that are now legal are those that carry the CE mark

Indeed, so fleabay specials (like mine ;) ) cant be used - legally:P

That bleeding CE mark caused so much trouble for me last year though, with imported radio sets for RC cars

They get you everyway don't they? :orb_sneak
