12v feed from fusebox

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm contemplating getting one of these Tomtom One satnav gadgets for Christmas, and I'd like it to be wired up neatly. I have searched around and found a few references to getting a 12v feed from the fusebox for this sort of work, but most of it seems to relate to the Mk II rather than the Mk I Elegance which I have.

What I would like to be able to do is take a feed from the fusebox somewhere then feed it up through the dash to emerge just by the plastic clip on the right hand side of windscreen so that I can attach the gadget there.

Is this doable? Any hints / tips?

Thanks in advance!

James

possibly run it from the back of the radio. then it will turn off when you remove the key etc.

If you have a multimeter then it should be easy.

Gain access to the rear of the fusebox and you will see that there are busbars in the back, some of which will be switched live. See if you can find one that is connected to a vacant fuseway, there is as I've done it but can't remember which one I used. Look at your fusebox layout guide and see if you have a phone symbol, that's what I use on the Octy II.

You'll then need a bit of wire with the correct terminal on it, these can be bought from your dealer. If you decide to go this route I can give you the number for the wire you need.

Don't forget you'll need a ring tongue for the earth. Just to the right of the steering column on the Octy I is a shiny chromed nut, this is an earth point.
