Wipers mechanism help please!

Featured Replies

Hi

Anyone help with the release of wipers?

One of my Fabias needs adjusting because after retro-fit of my work-supplied Bosch Wipers, it didn't seem to sit well with the wiping mechanism which seemed to want to tear a chunk out the drivers side !

A colleague helped identify that I need to adjust the spline on it, I came round to doing this though and the wiper is fixed hard in position even with the nut off!!

(The passenger side by the way was fine / no clearance issues so my main issue's with Drivers side)

Do they use locking compound ? Is there a neutraliser for the compound I can use to save tearing the stalk off complete with motor !!!

Thanks in advance all

They are well known for seizing. I usually undo the nut a few turns but don't quite remove it and then wobble the arm back and forth and they tend to come undone. The reason for leaving the nut on slightly is to stop the arm hitting the edge of the bonnet if it suddenly releases. You could try some wd40 or penetrating oil a few hours/days before you try but I have never bothered. Failing this a lot of people have used pullers which are available from most motor factors. If you don't have any success then it's worth doing a search on the site as it's a point which has been raised a few times with several different solutions.

Genius. Ta !

Your are completely right, common sense did not prevail here before I asked. If you do nip them up loosely, and do the waggley-bit until they loosen up - it does the job of removing them quite easily.

Without the nuts in place, you just make it hard for yourself.

Slip a small amount of Vaseline onto the splines when you put them back, should help if you find yourself removing them again.
