What does this mean...cant synch baud rate?

Featured Replies

Im playing about with my vag.com and i can click engine and read i have no fault codes but when i click 08 Auto HVAC it tries to read it in the comms status but come up with that error box. Whats it mean please.

Oh and when i click odb11and it scans i get message incorrect sync byte. Is this correct too?

The data rate between your pc and the OBD port is wrong...have you changed the Baud rate onn your serial port recently?

May be wrong but that's how I interpret it.

Serial ports ought to be able to cope with slight errors in timing like this - are you using a (less tolerant) USB cable,or a USB adapter?

It means you've bought a cheap cable from EBay and its not going to work

HTH.

Why does it read engine codes then but not any other. Can i change the baud rate in attempt to get it running or is the cable worthless. It wasnt off ebay but was 2nd hand

yes its related to the cable and using it with a usb to serial converter. I lugged old pc down to the garage and set it up on the drive and it worked fine. Ironic thig is the laptop has now packed up but you still cant buy a modern laptop with a serial cable connector. Guess ill have to get a new cable anyway as im having a new laptop

You can also buy a serial port card for the PCCard slot - RossTech recommends a few models :)

Wrong. Just as an example: The Dell Latitude D520, D620 and D820 all have serial ports. All are current models. The D520 starts at $599 here in the US.
