Arghhhhhh nuts to tight

Featured Replies

Had a major swearing fit at my car and tools tonight :splat: :cussing:

got a flat tyre by catching it on a bolt on the end of the fence

annoying enough that its a new 19" tyre even worse that its taken a gouge out of the wheel :weeping:

only problem is now i cant get the wheel off the nuts are way to tight

have to use a socket set because it recess for the nuts is small

ive bust three Draper sockets tonight

looks like its an RAC job tomorrow morning and a gobfull of abuse at the tyre place

What you need is a socket breaker bar and snap-on or similiar socket, I dont rate draper tools that highly myself, and different brand sockets can be VERY different in what force they take. Halfords professional sockets arent that bad for the money as well.

If you're using a little under 12" handle set Im glad the wheel nuts wouldnt come off with that. A properly torqued up wheel bolt should take a bit more leverage than that.

A lot of tyre places these days have reference charts for what torque wheel bolts should be done up to for what model of car, and they wont deviate fromt hat chart for legal reasons.

Having trouble getting them back in again doesnt sound good at all  Did the threads look visibly rusty? I would have thought normally the process of unbolting them would strip them nice and clean and make putting them back in nice and easy, unless theres some grit in the threads on either side. Id be carefull about using a lot of force on doing up bolts you can mess up threads good and proper like that :(.

i expect the threads in your hubs are knackered then???

are you sure they are the right wheel bolts??

I would go see a gynacologist. :D
