kit car

Featured Replies

They come up for sale every once in a while, grab one some time :D.

But owning the car doesnt make you able to drive like that :D

One of the ex works favorits sold a month or so ago for around £1500 I believe , and I sold an ex front running trophy felicia a few weeks back for £800 in need of a little TLC. Plenty of fun to be had out there.

If you want to see what the 1300 engined cars can do go looking for footage of emil Triner driving the skoda favorit on the RAC rally. Remember they won the world 2 litre cup with a 1300 engine breathing through standard carbs :D What isnt well known is that they were actually finished in the top 3 for about 3 years in a row - it was no flash in the pan!

nice nice. now tell me, what is the "kit car" could this be bought from skoda? and what was differant from the standard felicia?

just trying to findout were the car has come from, in order to know were i am going with it. if you know what i mean.

thanks for your help so far.

The "kit" car was a group A homologation package that was bolted onto a standard felicia There were I think 4 different engine capacity kit cars 1300,1400,1500 and 1600 the 1300-1500 cc engines were all variations on the skoda 136 engine, the 1600 kit car was based around the same vw 1.6 engine found in the 1600 felicia.

Basically it was a package of wider arch panels, wide track suspension, jenvey throttle bodies and quite radical engine work (forged crank rods pistons etc etc) Engine power was up to around 180 hp in the 1600 form the maximum out of 1500 was somewhere around 160hp I believe.

The "kit" pieces could at the time be brought from skoda to transform a standard road car into a rally car as per used by the works teams. AS far as what was different from the standard felicia there wasnt much left standard, fortunately the felicia is a fairly simple car :D.

I know a guy who is in the process of building his own 1400 kit car, and has made his own wide track suspension and wide arches based upon one of the works cars. VERY expensive work though.

Chances of finding skoda still selling kit car parts are very slim. How ever parts to convert a standard car to rally spec are relatively easy to come by from CZ, its also possible to get body shells prepared in CZ by ex-works mechanics! Far less expensive than you might imagine for the level of work done.

I would recommend starting with a road car and getting an engine and 6 speed box from engitec in CZ getting HP suspension and bodyshell and cage by the works guys. Putting those bits together alone would give you a really quite awesome package.

thats the info i was after. i have been looking at the hp stuff for some time and plan to get some of the hight ajustable ones, but cant see them on there site.

tell me more about the wide suspention setup. you see i'm a sheet metal and steel work fabricator, and i have often thourght about making some wider sus-arms.

thanks again for all your help. do you go to any of the meets? would be nice to put a face to the name (and grill you for more info. hehe)

The ones you want are listed under racing absorbers they are the favorit \ felicia sk N for original arms (24,000 crowns) or for wide track use you want the n / a version (30,000 crowns) I believe. Thery are adjustable on the platform height although the site doesnt translate well into english. They have 5 positions that you select with a circlip, surprisingly simple but very effective. This basically means the lower you run the car the stiffer the damper is.

As for the Wide track suspension I havent got any figures to hand for how much wider it was. I left my homologation papers go with the felicia when I sold it :(. But the guy I know whos building one is up birmingham way and is normally quite talkative about skodas.

I think theres more involved than just longer arms, obviously you will need longer drive shafts, and I believe they had different hubs as well that allowed you "dial in" the amount of camber required. I would guess the rack could stay the same if the pivoting of the hubs was designed correctly.

Unfortunately I havent got out to any meets - Married man 3 young kids one on the way and I live all the way down in Devon so nothings ever likelly to happen any closer than an hour drive away :(. But always ready to talk skodas :)
