Clutch Dragging on Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

Hi to All

I have very occasionally noticed a slight clutch drag over the last 20,000 miles when my pupils are manouevering. It has happened maybe three times in the last 5 - 6 months. However, today, the problem seems to have got considerably worse. If the clutch is depressed, the gearchange is generally OK, however, if it is depressed and held around the biting point (as one would if reversing slowly for example) the clutch starts to drag, the biting point gets lower and the gears get "locked in". If left long enough, it will probably drag enough to move the car. It does not happen all the time, but has affected the car on 4 occasions today. Definately not something my pupils are doing as it happened to me this evening.

I am guesssing that either master or slave cylinder seals are creeping or leaking? Either way, is this likely to be a quick fix with parts on shelf at the dealers, or a problem job? I have a pupil on test and a trip to Leeds (from Essex) over the next three days, so need fast fix. Any other suggestions as to likely causes?

Chris

does sound like a master cylinder problem , losing pressure as you say passed the seals , as to whether its an easy fix depends on the dealer saying you have a problem when they test it and they have the part is in stock to do the job

can I just clarify... do you mean the clutch is being held still and the biting point is changing? (i.e. moving lower down) until the point where it doesn't clear properly?

Hi Sharky

That is sort of what happens. If I just press the clutch down all the way and hold it, there does not seem to be as much creep as when I am working the clutch at around the biting point. Eventually, the biting point is at the point where the pedal is on the floor. It is a bit variable as well. This morning at the dealers, we tried without success to recreate the problem. Seems to happen when the whole plot is hot.

Mind you, I just had a good thrash from Chelmsford to Castleford this eveing and it is behaving itself.

hhhhmmmm sounds strange... hope the dealer fixes it before something breaks! I haven't had symptoms like this myself, hope all goes well!
