omg MR2.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Lol, When ur runin 250 brake in a low octy ud be inclined to think a J plated MR2 would be easy to deal with wdnt you. Well so wud I..... this guy was in front of me in Harlow and coz my octys debadged with 19inch audi rims he was kinda wundrin wot it was i spose. I followed him for a wile and watched as he spun the back end out on a roundabout and I thort, hmmmm this guy means business. I ended up being so curious as to how kwik this 14 yr old motor was that i followed it to the A414, we got onto a clear road and went for it. Well...... i took everything from my octy and stayed level with this guy.

Jus made me aware that things are not always wot they seem, Credit to the MR2 guy. good bita fun. Now is probly a good time to look at pushin the bhp by a few percent.

sly.

Remember though how light those older cars are in comparison to your octy, and it could be non standard itself. Any 14 year old car still running that well must have more than a fair bit of extra attention.

J plate MR2 could have been a turbo import.

some of those MR2s had turbos on or could be fitted with turbos and they got silly horsepower out of them , i saw one the other night , looked nothing special until i noticed the carbon fibre air scoop fitted onto the N/S C-pillar down into the engine bay , probably turboed

they don't handle too well though , swop ends a bit too easily from what i read in one of the threads on here iirc

One way to spot the turbo'd ones is that the engine cover has 2 buldges in it - the non-turbo's engine cover is flat.

old MR2 are not fast or as fast as they should be, if it was a standard 2.0l MR2 you'd have blown him away. from new 168bhp and weigh it at nearly 1400kg , 12 years on alot of those horses will have died off. add a turbo and it's a different proposition though.

You'll find a lot of guys putting N/A engine lids on to be sneaky ;) I want a V6 conversion for mine but really cannot justify it :(

He could have used proper English to gain an advantage.

I thought they weighed in at 1130Kg? Standard UK J plater would be around 120bhp I think. Revisions went on and power roe to 172, then cut back to 168 IIRC. A turbo one could have anything from 210 - 245bhp standard, depending on manf date and up to around 380 if tuned. Great traction, scary lift off oversteer.

Chris

Plus it has it's power going through the right set of wheels :P

That must be awkward ........... do they just move round in big anti clockwise circles then without drive to the left wheels :D :D :D

   Very good

I'm sure the Mister 2 would have had you in the twisties though.....

A chum of mine has a Celica GT-4 running over 500bhp - looks completely standard

not to mention that with a set of cheap 19" rims you would ruin the handling of an octavia.. particularly if combined with a set of lowering springs.

if of course im wrong and they are magnesium rims with p zero corsas and some kw varient 3' coilovers then i apologise.
