Boot wont open

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever had the boot refuse to open??

Everything was fine today until we returned home this evening.. SWMBO closed the boot and now it wont open.. you can here it unlock and it pops up slightly but thats it

Any ideas?

BTW it's an 06 plate Furby so if it's nothing simple the dealer will be sorting it out :)

Go in from the inside and remove the small cover at the bottom centre, behind there is a manual release. Open it then straighten the tang on the lock [car side]

Tends to bend when the tailgate is closed with the handle held in the 'open' position

Does that cover just pull off?

I did pull at that a bit.. but didn't force it as i didn't want to break anything :)

yes just pops out . 2 small keepers [tangs] on either side. Theres a slot for a flat blade on the lower edge. If your'e not sure take it back.. I dont want to be responsible for breaking it !... gentle heating [hairdryer] makes the plastic pliable but I've had this twice on 2 estates and it was v. simple to fix. I never damaged the cover.

FYI the reason this happens is because you can beat the lock cycle by lifting the tailgate slightly with pressure on the release then shutting it before the electric lock mech has time to reset to the latch/lock position.. Hope this makes sense?

Ok, I'll give it another go..

I'm puzzled as to how this has happened as the boot lid handle wasn't held open as the boot closed and I wasn't touching anything to do with the central locking..

Anyway thanks for the advice :D

Ok, I got the cover off.. didn't really need to pull that hard :)

I managed to get the boot open, but as soon as I close it again I'm back where I started.. it seems the mechanism that releases the boot catch isn't working properly :(

It's booked in at the dealers tomorrow afternoon..

Ok good. When you look at down at the keeper mechanism [from behind] there is a crank/lever on the lhs which should move on handle operation. This item bends and doesnt engage sufficiently on the latch [tailgate] hence it wont release.

Enjoy your visit and your kipper....

Yeah I'd guessed that is what was supposed to happen but nothing looks bent or out of shape... I guess all will be revealed later :)

All sorted.. the catch needed re-aligning.. :)
