FMIC or arc venting on vRS

Featured Replies

I have been reading a lot about the possible benefits of a FMIC, but then I ran into the concept called arc venting for the SMIC. What is this all about and is it a cheap mod? Obviously it has something to do with optimization of the flow to the SMIC, but is there a guide for this mod anywhere or could anyone explain it to me?

If your going to start messing around with a car. Always do it right. I believe the FMIC is the way to go.

Do a search for the pikey mod...

Going down the FMIC route will bring more benefits, but then you do pay much, much more for one, compared to providing more ventilation to the SMIC via an arch mod.

It all depends (IMHO) on what you are after.

FMIC is expensive, but does allow for more sustainable boost due to no heatsoak.

However to make the most of it, you'll want a hybrid to go with it. If you are able to do both it is excellent but it will be > 1k GBP pretty easily at the moment.

The SMIC venting helps a fair bit, and it doesnt cost a lot if anything (depending on how you do it). It also helps the standard car, doesn't mess with engine bits, and there will not be any difference in lag.

Both have their own advantages, the main difference is cost & maximum tuning potential that you can continue using :)

Well, I have thought about a hybrid turbo, but I don't really know where to get it, and it might be too expensive, so right now that is just dreaming stuff.

The FMIC is obviously better in terms of cooling, but better venting around the SMIC might be a solution for me for now.

But what about this heat soak? Right now I have around 170hp in my vRS. I have mounted the PD160 intake along with another air filter.

Another thing. Will a more effective IC help me in terms of smoke? Politicians here in DK seems to envy people with more than 50hp, so now remapping of diesel engines is "one really bad thing" - that's why I need to keep smoke at the lowest possible level. Tweaks anyone?
