Just been playing with exposure times - this is what I did on a 25 second exposure. This has not been chopped.

Erm well yes

I have a nice camera, (canon 350D)but don't know how to use it, so been practising with various things. I'm going to try that one again in the daytime one day, with better results hopefully.

Edit - Cheers Rob :)

Does look good mate. I have the same camera, so understand these desires to use all the functions possible :D

Well, when you come for chips, and to regail tales of 130 Abarths, a few camera tips will earn you a huuuuuge fish :)

I saw the bulb appear in the display, didnt know what it meant, so wound it back a bit. I did run in and shut the bonnet, but i ned more practise I think, and maybe more light.

Ah I turned down the brightness of my laptop and I can see your photo better  The bulb setting can be used with a remote release as well and will keep the shutter open as long as the shutter release is held open. I tried to take a sky at night photo with it, but as I live in Manchester all I got was a large orange shot of nothing. Bl00dy streetlights. Looking forward to one day getting down for whale and chips again and I can bore you with my Lancia Beta Coupe 2.0 (carb not injection) stories of woe too.

Had a quick fiddle with the dodge and burn tool. You should have a go with it on your original picture to pull out the engine detail, it will look a lot better than my effort

I am not knocking your work, because I struggle to take a half decent normal photo of a car, but...

How about taking two shots? One with the bonnet closed on a long exp. and one with it open on a long exp. then merging the two photo's together so that you dont have a shot of the open bonnet?

Good stuff, I like it, just a shame diesel lumps are so boring under the hood, otherwise i'd give it a go

lol I said that walkie! I'd like to have a play with two shots like that then as they are two layers you can erase the bonnet etc and change to opacity to suit! :)

Why not try splitting the 25 seconds differently - like longer open than shut or vice versa to see which comes out best?

nice ones.. but this is the best :P
