The idea is that is reflects the flash, therefore shielding the reg plate.

Not worth risking, if you ask me...

Don't think they'd work. Plus, what happens if Mr Plod is behind you and you he either flashes you or you get hit by a stray reflection and your plate goes illegible? Deep doodoo time methinks.

concur with jon there.

was sitting at traffic lights some months ago, up pulls this scoob beside me with a plate that didn't look right.

just looking at it, i could see it had a sort of hologram effect whereby the letters on the plate would appear/disappear depending on the light hitting it i assumed.

bloody obvious and a red rag to any nearby police i would think.

According to the TV Newsreal footage on the website the police tested it and it worked!!!!

HHHHmmmm..........

I Remember a Gold DB7 by corgi that had revolning number plates , Perhaps the policeman from Trumpton might miss that one!

Yeah these plates are totally illegal. And note the bit "So thin it is UN-NOTICEABLE to the naked eye from a distance" on the website. does that mean if you do get pulled it can easily be seen close up? Not worth the risk I would say, though not sure what you could actually get done for by having one. You would probably just get a VDRS to have it removed. A radar detector would probably be a better bet. :)

There is a company in Haydock that make special plates for this purpose, they cost about

I noticed that comment and wondered...

As far as illegality goes I see so many blatently illegal plates around I also wonder if they would bother to do anything.Whatever ,the price was good (but not if it gets me a fine)

The Speedtrap Bible has a test of one type of camera-proof number plate protector in this link:

http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Avoid_Home/Avoid_Gadgets.htm

The advice of that site is not to waste your money buying one, and it also warns that if you are caught using one you could be charged with perverting the course of justice.

a very comprehensive site it makes interesting reading.Certainly killed off that idea

I remember an AutoCar test driver who parked their car with one of these dvices on at a motorway service station only to return to find a plod taking a very close look at his car before handing out a fixed penalty notice. Not worth it IMHO.
