Featured Replies

Before someone jumps at me - I did search and couldnt find the answer.

1) What is the *best* oil to use for oil change? Synthetic ? Which brand and Wattage?

5W?

2) How much oil should be used - is it 4.5 Litres or teh full five?

Thanks

Please answer if you know - Its an 8V petrol

For this engine it's recommended a semi-synth 10w40. I have the same 8v engine, but I've been using only full synth, and from the last change (8000km ago) 0w40. It makes the engine sound better and that in my opinion comes from the way the timing chain is lubricated. A thinner oil will do a better job.

I use "ordinary" Castrol GTX in Mrs Ap0gee's car (i.e. NOT the Magnatec or High-Mileage versions - I think it's tagged as being "for modern engines" in the UK now or something).

It's cheap, you can get it almost anywhere, Castrol is Skoda's recommended brand, and it's the right spec for the 1.4 MPi engine. Why look elsewhere IMO?

HTH

My dealer (ex Skoda main agent) put Castrol GTX magnatec in my car at its last service , if thats any use to you.

I have same engine and run it on Mobil 1 Super S 10w 40

Runs sweet as a nut
