clutch pedal problem.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I came across this forum while trying to indentify a problem I am having with my 03 fabia, which I purchased only 2 months ago. Can anybody help. My problem is the clutch pedal has dropped to the floor a number of times. When I pull it back up , it works perfectly for another while. The garage where I bought it first replaced the slave cylinder. However that did not sort the problem. 2 weeks later they replaced the master cylinder. But 4 weeks later it has happened again. I don't understand why it is happening. Can anybody out there explain why and what needs to be done to sort out the problem. There is only 27,000 miles in the car and otherwise she is driving perfectly.

Reason, cure and workaround here. Nothing new under the Briskoda sun!!!

Hope this helps.

Hmm.....if there's no leak anywhere (which there shouldn't be if the slave and master cylinders have been changed then it sounds like your clutch system need bleeding badly. Either get a power bleeder and do it yourself (£16 from Halfrauds) or take it in to be done.

Air can be compressed whereas brake fluid cannot, hence the pedal may drop if there's air in between the master and slave cylinders.

Are you sure there's no leakage anywhere? Can you see any damp patches under the gearbox or on the bulkhead?

I changed my slave cylinder on the BM the other weekend as it had gone and was p*ssing fluid all over the place and had the same problem. No leakage any more but LOOOADS of air in the hose between the master and slave cylinders. This made the pedal just drop to the floor with next to no pressure. Took ages to bleed it all out.
