felicia suspension

Featured Replies

Hi, this is my first post.

The suspension on my 1998 felicia estate 1.3lxi has just collapsed! It was one of those just driving along moments.

The front spring on the drivers side now sits on the front wheel.

Has anyone else had this happen? It looks like the bottom pan that holds the spring has failed, but i have not yet had a chance to have a proper look.

Is the 'pan' part of the front strut, if so do i just need a replacement strut?

How much should i expect to pay, and where is the best (cheapest) place to source one?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It's normal for this sort of suspension, not just Skuds.New strut will be required either from your local dealer or try Butts of Bawtry nr Doncaster ( they are on the web) Not sure on prices but the Doncaster lot might be cheaper) If you are sorting it yourself then you might have trouble freeing off the lower bolt that attaches the strut to the hub (either heat or lots of force will be required ! )

That bottom bolt is a nightmare :D Fortunately strusts are not overly expensive for the felicia. Might be worth replacing both struts at once. The other one wont be far behind and Id prefer to keep the suspension even side to side, the characteristics of the oldt struts are bound to have changed over time.

Deja vu

It happened to me 2 months ago

heard a loud creak/squeak after going over a speed bump, got out but couldn't see anything wrong with the car, a week later the suspension strut collapsed, was still driveable for a couple of miles so got me home, with just a slight burring mark on the tyre.

Got my struts from Butts = jhmbuttco.com about £30 each + postage + £100 fitting at local garage

I did buy a pair because the other strut looked rather rusty

Happens on front and rear struts on the Felicia.

nooooo, not the rears as well

easy to do. you need some spring compresors and a bag of spanners. its just the one at the bottom, and two bolts in the engine bay no top of the sus-turret. as some one has just said, do both. good luck.

struts??? as in suspension dampers?

so this is a common problem then?
