Central Locking - Boot release

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

The boot release button on the keyfob of my Fabia vRS doesn't appear to do jack. Doors lock and unlock and the double clicky works fine (double pressing the lock button turns off the alarm and unlock the deadlocks - is that right?). But the boot button, doesn't open the boot as expected. The only way into the boot is to unlock all of the doors.

How should it work, am I just being daft?

Cheers,

Tim

Are you holding it down for a couple of secs? If not then this will work... if so i am not sure. But make sure once you have opened it you dont put your keys in and close because it locks...

Something most of us have probably done....

I have to say I think the middle button is rather pointless - the hatch only opens a fraction - you still have to lift it. So the same effect would be obtained by simply double clicking the door button - which is just as easy and lifting it by releasing the catch. Now if the rear hatch powered up...

IIRC hatch isnt legally allowed to power up just incase it comes open when the vehicle is in motion.

No - cars costing two or three times that of the Fabia have powered hatches - it's just not justified on such a cheap car...

I know that VW were not permitted to fit the self opening boot of the Passat saloon on estate for this reason. Something about a hatch being counted as a door.

Saloon yes, hatch no.

Weird how that is the case. That said I can just about imagine it :D

Interesting (?) twist to this - how did those electrical sliding doors as per that Peugeot get past this? Guessing they must have some kind of double interlocking system to avoid accidental opening of the doors.

If I remember it rightly there are also some rules that allow the doors to open 'backward' under certain restrictions :)
