pd100 combi owners? - need some info

Featured Replies

hi all,

Was just wondering the other they that with some upgrades the Fab combi looks cool. I'm also looking for a bit more room at the back than what the current vRS has. I'm keeping my finger crossed that the new vRS will be available in combi as well, but most likely it won't be... so I need an option. Thus some info from current owners is reguired.

1) Does the pd100 combi share the same steering components with vRS or is the steering slower?

2) What are your revs like running @60mph or @75mph ?

3) How's the noise levels in combi? Compared to vRS if you have info?

4) How does it run with a remap (130'ish) & possibly eibach set?

5) Do you have the sports seats as option? How are the normal seats?

What I'm getting at is what I'd be missing, besides the badge & spoilers, if I got a nice specced up combi and had it remapped to vRS level & had it fitted with the whole eibach shebang. My current vRS is stock, besides PD160 intake & better filter.

I can already see it... black magic combi, tinted windows, climatronic, sport seats, small leather kit, remap, eibachs, decent set of 16's or 17's under it.. and oh yes, a detachable towbar. Perfect family car with a bit of a twist..

Just need some clarifications on the issues stated above.

I have a 2002 Fabia Elegance Estate it's not had much done in the way of modding but it has been remapped and it "just" had the edge on my friends standard Fabia VRS saloon (he's sold it now) in terms of performance although to be fair there was very little in it.

Go for the Elegance model as it has has lots of good spec as standard, heated seats, cruise control, rear parking sensors, aircon, front electric windows (and also rear in mine), central locking, alarm, alloy wheels, roof rails, computer.. etc etc.

It actually is a very well spec'd car and although mine didn't come with sports seats the seats fitted are heated & comfortable enough even on long journeys.

Looking at all the mods you are thinking of doing you'll end up with a fantastic estate car with some decent performance !

Does the Bohemia come with the 100pd?

If so, it already comes with 15" alloys, sports seats and the 3 spoke steering wheel.

Don't know really. As I live in Finland, our models have slightly different specs. Currently we have Fabia estate/combi coming in 4 different specs 1) elegance 2) ambiente 3) fun and 4) classic.

Anyway, the most important ones of the questions asked above are about the revs and noise levels. Road noise is no stranger to me as I'm running a vRS with 215/40/16's during the summer and finnish road surface is notoriously harsh after the winter (90% use studded tyres during the winter, it tends to wear the tarmac bad...).

AFAIK the bohemia comes in either 1.4 petrol or 1.4 diesel engines only.

nice car though, i had a look at one six months ago

Hi,

I have an 2007 model PD100 Combi.

Compared to my previous 2002 Fabia 1.4 8v, the steering is heavier in the PD100, but as i didn`t have the 1.4 from new, the dealer or owner might have lightned the steering as you can do this with vag-com.

Don`t know the exact revs at 60 and 75 mph, but will have a look later if you want. But at 60km/h in 4th gear, it is around 1500rpm and in 5th gear at 80km/h, it is also at 1500rpm. At around 150-160km/h, it is around 3000rpm, so i would guess that at 75mph it would be around 2500rpm.

I find that you can feel the turbo starts to spool up pretty low down, and comes to live at around 1500rpm, and really takes off at around 1800rpm.

Regarding noise, i can`t compare with a vRS, but there might be a bit more rumble to it, as it is a Combi, compared to my 1.4 which was a H/B, nothing really worth talking about.

Haven`t got a remap - yet. But here in Denmark, it seems to be at around 140-145 bhp with OBD-tuning.

I have the normal seats, which are very good. They need to be broken in when new - i got back pains to start with, but no problem now - also had normal seats in the 1.4. I have tried the sports seats - they are good, but as they cost around £1200 here in DK as an option when ordering, they where too expensive for what they gave.

They have better support in the sides, and that`s about it.

I have already gotten hold of some tint-film, and am also getting it lowered around 35mm. Regarding alloys, I`m going to stick with 16", as they are a good compromise between sport and comfort.

AFAIK the bohemia comes in either 1.4 petrol or 1.4 diesel engines only.
I think this used to be true, but the latest UK Fabia brochure now includes a PD100 Bohemia - it looks like the Classic and Ambiente specs won't be available as estates unless you order one quickly (and in Elegance spec the PD100 will be the only estate model available in future).

I have a PD100 combi classic with a tuning box fitted. It goes like stink and in my opinion has more poke than the chassis can cope with.

If I had the funds, I'd have vRS alloys, blacked out windows and I'd lower it a touch to try and sharpen the handling a bit.

Nah ... if I had the dosh I'd chop it in for an Octy vRS diesel estate!

This is only an opinion ...

Tdi Elegance is a fine, well spec'd and designed vehicle [as mentioned]

If you want a hot estate - I suggest buy one that was manufactured for that purpose. [as mentioned]

Leave it be.....

I'd love to buy octy vrs tdi or octy 2.0tdi elegance combi.. just a slight problem with the cash flow.

Elegance specced 1.9tdi fabia combi is around 23k euros in here, add the extra options and you'll be around 27k mark, then add suspension & engine mods and you're getting to 30k level. Very expensive for a car that size, I admit.

Now, take the 2.0 tdi combi elegance octy - it starts around 31k euros, add the necessary options and you'll be around 33-34k euros. Ok, you now say the hatch octy has more boot than fabby combi - yes, that's true. But the hatch version is around 1k cheaper, so we'll be hitting the 32k - 33k mark when it's specced up. Oh and not to mention the vrs tdi octy - starts around 37k euros and still needs the towbar, auxiliary heater, winter tyres... we're getting closer to 40k here.

40k euros = 27k pounds, as 1 pound is about 1,48 euros.

With fabby I can at least buy the suspension etc mods one at a time over a longer period of time and that way I can actually for the dosh for it. Also I've got a big fat mortage on my hands as I'm building a house atm.. so forking the extra dosh with a loan is really not an option.

So, for now it seems the tuned fabia combi seems like a right choice. Alternatively, I'll get a larger used car for swimbo as a daily driver and wait for the new vrs fabby to come out... either, a fabia is all I can fork my money for right now.

Cars in Finland are way more expensive than in the uk... I reckon only the danish have more expensive cars in the eu than we have.

You are absolutely correct - sadly. :thumbdwn:
