Ways to connect an iPod

Featured Replies

I must say I was a little suprised that on a new car, there was no easy method to connect an iPod. Or any mp3 player for that matter.

Does anyone know the easiest possible method I could achieve this without using an iTrip?

a Dension.

See Halfords. They'll fit it for you. It works. I've got one.

Cheers The Dill.

I'll look into that, how much was it and what is it?

Spot the owner of a new Christmas iPod !

I had one fitted late november from Halfords....

Search for my thread in the ICE forum, I had it hidden in the cubby hole under light switch.

Cost £133 supplied and fitted....

if you want the dash mount for the centre console price goes up to £150.

I have the MFD2 Sat Nav, and sadly the ID3 tag's dont appear so I dont know what song / album i am listening too which is quite annoying.

Buy the dension of ebay (pr somewhere) and fit it yourself. I did and it saved me £100 and also stopped a spotty teenager taking my car apart...

I got mine for £50 - make sure you get the right one though. Easy to fit...

I got myself a cradle from a mobile phone accessory market stall in Northampton for £14.99. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and the IPOD plugs into the cradle. Tune the cradle into the radio at 88.7fm and away you go. Added bonus is that the IPOD also gets charged at the same time.

Has been ideal for me and has worked perfectly for about 6 months now.

There are plenty of these on ebay.

There is another way to do this (if you have the MFD2 HU). I bought one of these off ebay which I hear is pretty good (hav'nt got round to fitting it yet and unlikely to now as my ipod has gone up the swanny!).

If anyones interested in it, I may well part with it for a reasonable offer (it's brand new and still sealed).

I agree it is very poor. I have the audience sterio and if the I pod fitting is installed then you can't use the 6 stack cd. as both need the auxilary plug. You get an i pod plug as standard on a civic or a mazda 3. There may be another way that they don't know about yet in New Zealand!!

I have decided to go with the cigarette lighter version but am dissapointed with this outcome

I'm assuming that when you say "a new car" that yours isnt a 2007 MY Octavia? I thought that all new Octavia's (with jumbo boxes at least) had an Aux socket in the top of the jumbo box that was designed to connect any audio source to. I've used mine (Nov registered 2.0TDi 4x4) with my iPod, TomTom and phone quite happily. There's no MP3 tag display of course, but its better than nothing.

The audience unit has an MP3 tag on it also, so will play MP3 CD's as well.

Its not brand new, I should have clarified that. Its an ex demo, May 2006. It does have a jumbo box(strange name considering I can just about fit a pack of polos in it!) but no Aux Socket, unless Im blind!

I've just fitted the Harmon Kardon drive+play into a friends Focus ST.

Personally, it's the best iPod interface I've found, as it offers full control without being crippled by the capabilities of the headunit you are connecting to. So often, these iPod control things are hampered by the fact that the OEM headunit just wasn't designed to handle anything but CD track numbers (or possibly CD-Text if you're lucky) on it's display.

It's also pretty easy to fit, and only requires an AUX in connection to the OEM headunit.

My friend got his here:

Astonishing invention, isn't it, the iPod?

First it costs about

Don't forget all the charging cables you will need...in car, at home, on the move etc!

I think I listen to the radio more than I listen to the iPod cos of the hassle!

How about the new Nokia CK20-W car kit, looks like it has a 3.5mm jack to allow the use of an iPod etc plus the added benefit of a proper handsfree car kit!

If you have a stream HU you can get an adapter that plugs in in place of the cd changer. It fools the HU into thinking the changer is still attatched and gives an aux audio input. You get them on Ebay for about

Though i'm a bit annoyed that I can't get a 120Gb Ipod IIRC so i'll not have access to all my albums.

Dont Worry Johnny, Steve jobs will launch a Gen 25 model in the next 10-15 years that will feed your needs.................. just keep milking the cash cow Apple!!!

Or you could buy 2 new 80GB ones and have room for future expansion lol!
