Antenna broken on automatic washing

Featured Replies

Yesterday I went to wash my car in automatic wash. I unscrewed antenna and laid it on the back glass. However when I came home I remembered that I have to put antenna back on vertical. Then I noticed that it was broken. It's still there but only rubber surrounding hold it in one piece. It's broken closer to the bottom, so completely useless. I will have to buy the other one but how I take the broken one off? Just can't figure it out.

Thanks

Thats bad news but nothing compared to all those scratches on your paintwork

I only wash car on automatic washing once a year. As I usualy keep the car 3-4 years it would be only 3-4 times. Never got marks on my paintwork.

Yes found not being able to remove the antenna when wanting to use the car wash a real surprise on my new Octy 2.0Tdi Estate. Seems like a really bad idea, like you haven't found any way to remove it as yet - anyone got any advice on how to remove it?

On my mkI Leon you also can't remove the antenna. It is an anti-theft type. I also unscrew it and put it flat before going into car washes but it never broke. Pretty agressive car wash! I believe that if you pull hard to get it out, but would wait for other conformations before trying it out!

You can remove them, just tug and twist etc, fidly, but you can do it, alternitively dont be so lazy and wash it yourself!

Don't do anything to the antenna - leave it as is. It's bendy and the carwash won't hurt it. Let it flop about and it will end up overstressed.

^Wrong i left mine on my old seat toledo (exact same aeriel as fabia) needless to say the auto wash yanked it right out and gubbed the base

I fuond the post on spanish skoda forum that explains the way to remove the antenna. They say there is a plastic ball on top of the screw (inside the body of antenna whip). After you unscrew it you have to bend the bottom of the whip left and right untill the ball inside the whip brakes. After that antenna is out and then you can screw it back if you want or buy a new one (aftermarket or other VW vehicle) that would fit so you can take it out whenever you want. Still haven't tried it myself but will have to because mine is broken (whip), hold together only by plastic surrounding.

Anyway, here is the text from spanish forum:

Hola Castuo, sino me equivoco, la desenrroscas del todo, luego tienes que tumbar, y en esa posici
