Leon FR TDI 170bhp

Im sorry but any of you who really think the VRs is a fast car then you are very much mistaken.

A VRs could pull away from me in my 20V Turbo Coupe if I was in 5th @ 30/40/50 however if I wanted to pass it I would simply change down to thrid give it 50% beans and it would be all over very quickly.

Remember my car std does 0-100mph in 14 seconds mine has nearly 30% more power & torque than the std car.

Dont get me wrong I like the 1.9 TDi units but please if you really think its a fast car then your in for a big surprise when you buy a proper fast car. The VRs is a good economical, nippy sturdy and reasonably good looking (in the right colour), good value insurance (although its only £100 per year cheaper than mine).

The next car I'm going to buy may well be the VRs or a 330D Msport or I might opt for a E36 M3 Evo or the 3.8 M5 N reg. For me it all comes down to the fact I will never spend more than £6k on a car and I want the depreciation to be as low as possible. i.e. an N reg 3.8M5/E36 Evo M3 will doubtly drop much below £4kish whereas the VRs will certainly go ultimatly under £1k.

Yes the fuel bills may be higher BUT you need to look at the full cars costs (depn included) and when you do this the benefits of a diesel certainly are erroded due to their huge popularity.

Of course if I were spending more I'd probably buy a 3 year old M5 V10 507bhp over the 535d any day and add into that the 335d.

I have had some fun against one of those (530 in this case) and from 40 -110 it pull only a car length on my Furby vRS. I was quite impressed as I only had a pipercross filter and pd160 intake (remap in april!).

In your standard vRS I think perhaps he was merely driving normally, not actually trying to race you.

I get a lot of cars (mostly Audi's) tailgating me, etc, and I don't go flat out, I just carry on with the pace I intended to go at. They edge a little bit closer as if to say 'haha I am faster than you' when in actual fact I am just going me normal pace

Then I bet, like you, they go on their forum, giving it 'oh this beemer couldn't shake me today, I was stuck to his rear bumper'

When will Skoda drivers ever grow up?? :D

The majority are, but there are some exceptions

skoda enzo... the future!!!!

535 v8 beater. my ****. what about the beemer 540 sport. will it keep up with that too lol.

Whats that then? head? chin? hand?

Take it or leave it (probably the latter (last) one)

Smile... :)

My sister has got the new leon FR 170 tdi. Its a quick car , definatley quicker than a standard VRs . My VRS has been remppped i i drove both of them back to back and thought the vrs had the edge due to the massive surge once the turbo kicked in ....However on country road there was nothing it in terms of outright speed and in gear ...but the leon felt more sure footed on the limits..The leon is more progressive. Oh and Superchips have just released figures for the 170 PD and they got 213 BHP and 310 LBS........now im sure that would show a remapped VRS a clean pair

Whats the weight difference between the Leon and the Octavia II VRS TDi , if there is one? I take it the mechanical spec is the same. By the way , the Leon is in a class above the Fabia , both in power and in size , it is IMHO unfair to compare the two cars , especially in a 'my car is faster than your car' way.

PS Welshy , what 20V turbo coupe did you get for under £6K?

One made by Fiat, I presume ;)

Ahh right! I thought it was a TT...untill I saw how much his max budget is!

I think what everyone is overlooking in this thread is whether or not the owners of their car (not just the Fabia vRS) enjoy driving it. People can spout stats all day long but the most important thing is whether or noy you enjoy driving it. I had a Toyota Corolla GTI a few years back and it wasn't the quickest car I've ever driven but it brought a smile to my face every time I got in it.

Yes it is fun to try and have a go at other cars from time to time but these kind of threads always get out of hand when people either a) have too bigger ego's or B) have come in to slag off another car.

I am happy with my car and to me, that's all that matters!

I hope this has clearded up most of this thread and a couple of others on here at the moment and I'm sure most of you will agree with me on that!

  at a Fabia being quicker than a 535i

You've got to be having a laugh?

One of my mates has an old 'H' reg 535i that he bought for less than 1k and he bottled it at a GPS indicated 160mph on the autobahn when we went to the Nurburgring last year, the car was happy to keep accelerating.

It would absolutely wipe the floor with any Fabia however it was modded.

Read the post.

40 to 110 - one gear change for me and perfect acceleration range, stopped at about 100ish where he was still pulling I wasnt... He has seen 150 on the speedo... so no chance there...!

Thought we had put this thread to rest!

I did read the post, your still delusional, the 535i can probably do that whole acceleration range in one gear, as I said, the floor would have been well and truly wiped with a fabia.

There is no way on earth any 1.9 diesel can keep up with a 535i in any gear at any speed full stop. stop making yourself look a fool.

Im not. You are.

I have been there and done it. Even with kick down he didnt make any ground until 110 on two runs...

I'll put it to rest now, but I will video it next time and then post back...

I'll be right back, going to get the popcorn again.

Dont bother, you cant argue with someone who belives he can keep up with a car thats nearly twice the capacity, horsepower and torque:rolleyes:

To end this thread... I really posted about fuel economy on Leon.

After dropping brother at airport this morning, I was allowed to take his car, I can confirm it is alot quicker than Fabia. I was impressed with performance on Leon, but must add its not stupid quick.

My mate has a S14a 200sx pushing 280bhp now thats a fairly quick car. But then again you get used to how that pulls.

The leon FR 170 will get you about 47MPG if you are not using the engine to it's max , I think i said that in my first post.

Yeah, about 45 combined, same as 140 PD 2.0 reaqlly unless you are giving it beans, then maybe sub-20s...

hth

please close thread now...!

I want to forget this little episode, and go back to admiring and respecting fellow Briskodians... :P

...and weight?

Dunno about a 535i, but I DO know I've chased my boss in his 525d and not had any trouble keeping up at all. And I know he was trying because we were late for the meeting... :P

1315kg vs 1600kg (ish) (300kg, or 4 13 stone blokes extra!)

Also:

twice the capacity? yes almsot double

twice the bhp? not more than 50% extra

twice the torque? Nope... ;)

I'd rather drive the 535i
