My wife is no longer happy with the steering wheel in the 1.6LX Octy. The car had been a disabled persons car before we bought it, and there are marks on the wheel where some sort of driving aid had been fitted. I had put a cover on the wheel to avoid the roughness of this damage. When I was driving the car this did not bother me.

Now I have the vRS SWMBO keeps moaning about the thickness of the wheel plus cover in the LX. Also she says thje wheel looks crap compared with the VW style wheel in the vRS.

Can steering wheels be changes without having to change the airbag etc as well?

You can change the wheel, but in order to use your existing airbag you will need the same type. You will also need to get a specialist to change it as handling airbags is not for the faint hearted, all those explosives you see.

I have a Fabia Steering wheel for sale - if only I knew how to safely remove it from my moderately damaged Fabia without risking ther airbag going off. I have someone else interested in it too though, so in a Harry Hill manner... "There's only one way to settle this! FIIIIIIGHT!"

I don't know if this is the same for the octy as well but the nut they use to hold the steering wheel in place can only be torqued up 5 times then you need a new one, the dealership I use punches the bolt to make sure they don't use it any more times.

There is only one cable connecting the airbag to the stering wheel, what you do have to watch is static!!!!!!

As long as your battery has been disconnected for a while you shouldn't have any worries.

If I was you I would sell all the airbags with the module and and the dash top together otherwise you may be left with bits you cannot sell.
