:) it's jolly good fun -- Audi DSG have had it since launch -- although not advertised.

Though Skoda DSG does not have it.

Shame really.

Most of the VW's didn't have it but VW have issued a software update to enable it.

Wonder if the same flash would go on a skoda 'box :D

Also.. i heard something about the 'box recording the number of times you use it... and it could be grounds for warranty invalidation

That would be a bit naughty, if it's an acceptable procedure listed in the manual then I wouldn't think they'd dare try that.

Im pretty sure i read it somewhere when the dsg was released... a warning about not to do x number of launches within y amount of time.. and the gearbox kept note about the number of launches and also had a "threshold exceeded - warranty void" code like the 20vt engine does

Surely nothing a bit of vag-comming could sort? Just like clearing fault codes, surely?

I would guess that like the "engine speed exceeded" code on the 20vt that its unclearable.. and i do know a LCR owner who was told to F-off about getting a new engine under warranty for this code being present

That's ridiculous. It should just prevent you doing more launches than the warranty allows.

:iagree:

manufactureres should set rev limits below what they believe to be too high and a speed limiter below what they believe to be too high. if a car isn't capable of being launched then launch control shouldn't be available.

i'd argue them in court under fit for purpose.

BMW's smg box also has limited number of use, which is recorded -- but it states the limit in the manual, and anyone using more is asking for trouble.

Audi DSG have had the launch control since launch -- it's not listed as a feature in the manual. Audi advised that repeated use is not advised, purely due to the strain on the drivetrain in general.

I'm suprised at VW releasing an update to release this feature - after all it's use is not the effective on FWD car.

It's also quite fiddly to use - would be quite difficult to quickly put in place say at a traffic light GP -- would take lots of practise.

As for storing of codes --- DSG will store excess torque message, but I have never come accross a code for excess launch use -- the first 3.2DSG TT we had was used for launch control in excess of 30 times -- and did not give an issue.

They do...

the warranty thing for the engine was if you go past the limiter, or stay on it for more than a few seconds.

how can you go past a limiter? surely that means the limiter isn't working?

If you change down too soon it will...

Is that code listed when you scan with vag-com?
