Completre Electrical Failure!

Featured Replies

Returning from a party a couple of nights ago, our Fabia 1.9tdi suffered sudden and complete electrical failure!

Absolutely nothing worked - not even the hazard lights, so it was fortunate that we were on a country road with a safe place close by out of potential danger.

The battery has tested OK yesterday so the problem does not lie there. We have had several problems with Fabia electrics over the nearly 6 years we have owned the car, mostly due to failure of a power cable.

We are underwhelmed by the build quality of the electrical system on these cars!

The car is, as I speak, on its way to the main VW/Skoda/Audi dealer in Marbella, thankfully recovered there by the 6 year Skoda Assist on Fabias which is available in Spain.

Has anyone a similar experience and if so, what was the cause?

BTW lovely and sunny here!

sounds like a main fuse has blown or a battery power lead fault

cold, wet and windy here , LOL

Well, the garage 'phoned tonight - it was a "sensor" which I think probably means, in English, a relay.Cost 96 euros 60 centimos and we can collect tomorrow.

We'd rented a hire car for three days too! Still could have been worse.

I think electrical problems generally are not an issue common to Fabias. Sure, sensors pop here and there, but I've not heard of wiring looms failing in some major way, or other electrical problems. My car totally died when I tried to start it the other day, but that was an easy fix. I'd not tightened up the positive clamp on the battery a couple of days before so it worked its way loose.
