vRS vs Arosa TDI

Featured Replies

the Sport TDI is quite nippy, as is the Sport Petrol and the GTI (although I don't think there's much between the Sport and GTI in real terms)

fuirty engines in small, lightweight cars :)

We've got a Lupo sport as well as the Fabia vRS. It's great fun.

wat lupo do you own? the gti is lighter than the others, iirc it has more alloy parts like bonnet etc.

It's got soem alloy panels from the Lupo 3L, yes.

What's this about a Lopu being light and nimble? What utter crud, they weigh a ton and handle like a pig - ours would understeer and oversteer at the same time, and the steering was so awful nothing was felt thru the wheel.

And if you are more than 5'10" you have to drive it in the giving birth position.

So it's got a decent engine, big wup - you can't polish a turd !

I'd disagree. I'm 6ft 4 and have no troube with driving ours. I'd agree there isn't a lot of steering feel, but I reckon some non-****e tyres would help ours. It handles OK though. There's more grip than you'd expect, but quite a lot of roll.

arosa's are great little cars its a shame they dont make them anymore. i had a 1.0L arosa and it was suprising how quick it was it could beat most 1.4s and they cornered for fun you could throw them all over no probs!

Oversteer + Understeer at the same time = Perfect balance or drift exactly what would be desirable when grip runs out, no? Hardly any car has perfect balance over a range of corners therefore they tend to oversteer or understeer.

My parents had a Lupo Sport and I have driven a GTI. Both handle fairly well for a small car, quite good grip. When pushed they did (expectantly) understeer but can't remember any oversteer:eek:.

Right, the GTI is actually HEAVIER than the sport, even though it's got alu panels, meaning the Sport is quite closely matched with the GTI. a Fabia vRS should still blow them in a straight line though. Corners... would depend, both the Sport and the GTI handle quite well, I'd say, but they roll a fair bit.

I managed to get a GTI to oversteer on a test drive, but I think that was down to lack of grip from the standard sh*tty Dunlops! My Sport tends to drift towards understeer or a full slide, not really oversteer

I'm also 6'1" and have no trouble sitting comfotably in it :)

Then you weren't trying hard enough!

Don't think my Mum would appreciate me Scandinavian flicking her pride of joy around the bends!:D

I hated the Lupo with a passion, we had it brand new and it was never right, clutch dragged from day one and couldn't be dialled out, it rarely started first time and was terrible on fuel.

How you great long mutants get comfortable in this car is a mystery to me, I'm only 6'1" and I couldn't go for longer than 30 mins in the Lupo without the need to get out and stretch to stop pins and needles in my back, by comparison my old LHD smart was much better, the size of the fuel tank being the only reason to get out and stretch.

i'm sorry, but that is utter rubbish! i suggest fitting some new tyres if yours was that bad, i'm 6' 1" and built like a brick ****house and i never have problems with lupos. and as for handling, they seem ok to me, even the poverty-spec models handle ok

i agree with tom, i am 6'4" and fit quite well in the lupo, the sport did have pump up and down seats. some cobra coilovers and some goodyear f1 tyres will make it into a monster in the twistys.

if you race against a standard lupo gti in a fabia vrs you will basically get laughed at!!!:)

I'll bet. The one I saw on the way back from sunny Scarborough was off like absolute hell. He overtook a string of cars up a hill a blasted dust all over me. :(

I was in my 1.8 Chavalier at the time though....

Kind of defines the difference between a warm hatch and a hot one. Remapping aside of course.... :)

no problems with my driving 3, 4 hours without stopping in my Loop :)

Yep, I'm no lightweight, I was around 17st at the time. I rubbed shoulders with passengers, it's a nasty tiny little car - end of chat.

The Lupo got part-chopped for a (remapped) Yaris D-4D which handles beautifully compared to the truck-like Lupo.

you obviously had a duffer then!

i know one thing for definate, and nobody will ever change my mind on this!!! lupo's are absolutely fantastic for fast road/racing/modifying/hillclimbing...
