Msr?!

Featured Replies

think I experianced this for the first time today, after 66k in the car!

so scroat kids on my road stole my dust caps from the front of the car visual examination, everyting else seemed ok...... tyres didn't look messed with (pouring rain so left the 'pressure check' for later ) something written on the back, hope they sucked the dust off their fingers and are now dying.........(you'll see why I have this hate later..)

went down the usual flooded Cumbrian roads down by the lakes, driving on a bendy dual carrige way (bout 50mph) came over a browe of a hill to see a nice big river on the left hand side, backed off the gas, so the car was on overrun and slowing (no brakes) and hit the water (I drive this road most days in these conditions, and was going easily slow enough (bout 40mph by then) , slower than I often have before...) and the "skiddy car" light comes on flashing!! Now, I have of course seen it many times on full throttle with a slippery suface as the ASR brings down the torque, but never on overrun, so I assume this was the MSR working, the device that is supposed to stop wheels locking under overrun (for example when changing down on a very slippery surface)... so I assumed my nearside front was 'lost'.... stopped at the next petrol station for a check, and found the previously mentions scroats had let some pressure out (unless it was a random puncture, will find out tomorrow!) the nearside was at about 15psi, enough to cause this lack of grip... (they should be taken in for attempted murder! letting peoples tyres down (a little so it's as good as unnoticibale with a visual check) is NOT funny...)

anyway, if you try and ignore my ranting on the scroats, this was the MSR at work right? just never experianced it before

set the pressures right, and my usual grip returned no problem right as , well, er , rain ...

Sounds like you are right in assuming it is the MSR - though haven't had it kick in on mine yet (far too early on in my vRS days, as yet).

Good to know that it was working.

Good to know it possibly averted an accident + alerted you (in a roundabout fashion) to the problem.

+ yes, hang the little scroats. Damn dangerous.

lol... roundabout fashion yes... if it was a dry day, my first indication may have been a roundabout :o

note: you really couldn't tell the pressure was down with a visual check... all looked fine ... with really low profile rubber it might be nice to have some pressure monitors in the car, like the octy II vRS has :)

I nearly altered the 'roundabout' reference - you latched onto it straightaway. Must have same (according to my kids) terrible sense of humour and punishing puns.

Pressure monitors would be nice - personally I think they should be standard on all cars (especially judging by the bulging sidewalls I see when I'm out motoring - I used to tell all of them, now just the odd one after the looks I get in return i.e. is the man mental ?).
